Royal Caribbean ship begins first cruises to the Mexican Riviera

Royal Caribbean's biggest ship to sail from Los Angeles has begun its first-ever cruises to the Mexican Riviera.

Ovation of the Seas, a Quantum Class ship launched in 2016, arrived in California last week. After a short 3-night media cruise, she began offering regular voyages to Baja Mexico and the Mexican Riviera. The first was a short getaway to Ensenada and will be followed by a 5-night cruise to Cabo on June 6.

Before Oviation, Navigator of the Seas was the largest (and newest) ship to be deployed in Los Angeles.

I tried the overlooked breakfast option on two cruise lines. One was more basic but both were free

Cruisers have a range of options to start their day, from the buffet to the main dining room and other grab-and-go options. However, one complimentary option that frequently gets overlooked is room service.

Room service is one of my favorite ways to treat myself to a relaxing morning on any cruise vacation, whether leisurely sipping coffee on a sea day or avoiding the buffet on a busy port day.

I’ve been to Perfect Day at CocoCay 9 times — 6 reasons I’m even more excited for Royal Caribbean's new private destination in Mexico

I fell in love with Perfect Day at CocoCay seconds after stepping ashore in January 2023. Since then, I've returned 8 times, exploring the new adults-only beach, waterpark, upscale beach club, and complimentary beaches.

I didn't think Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day experience could get better — until they revealed details about their upcoming Perfect Day Mexico project set to welcome passengers in 2027.

I tried the lesser-known breakfast option on Royal Caribbean. It wasn’t fancy, but it was convenient — and free

For many passengers, the buffet is the first stop to start their morning aboard a cruise ship. However, did you know you can get free room service delivered to your cabin?

Food is readily available on all cruise ships, from the buffet to the Main Dining Room and quick service grab-and-go options.

While the buffet has endless breakfast options and the MDR's quality is higher with freshly plated meals, one of my favorite ways to kickstart my day on a ship is with room service.

I skipped the free beaches at Royal Caribbean's private island and paid $100 for admission to the adults-only area — I'd do it again for these 4 reasons.

Even after 9 visits, Royal Caribbean's private island remains one of my favorite places to visit on a cruise — and it keeps getting better.

In 2019, the cruise giant spent millions of dollars renovating CocoCay, transforming it into “Perfect Day at CocoCay,” a resort-style destination packed with new attractions, an upscale beach club, and other upgraded amenities.

Whether lounging on one of the complimentary beaches or paying for admission to the exclusive waterpark, there's something for everyone.

I paid $3,800 for a controversial balcony on the world's largest cruise ship. The space was larger than expected but didn't have an ocean view and lacked privacy

Icon of the Seas is one of the most expensive mainstream cruise ships at sea, and during her inaugural year, it wasn't uncommon to see rates as high as $2,000 per person for an interior cabin.

My partner and I couldn't justify paying those prices for a windowless cabin, so we booked a weeklong cruise over a year in advance for July 2025. However, due to scheduling conflicts, we changed our sail date twice and ended up on a 7-night cruise to the Eastern Caribbean in April.

Guests on an overbooked cruise could get up to two sailings for free — here’s how

Royal Caribbean is offering guests aboard an upcoming cruise on Allure of the Seas some amazing compensation if they downgrade their stateroom or change sailings.

Passengers booked on the May 15, 2025, sailing from Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy, received an email asking if anyone had flexible travel plans.

While they didn't explicitly state that the cruise is overbooked, they're looking for passengers to either move to a "cozy interior stateroom" or Odyssey of the Seas' May 18 sailing from Civitavecchia.

I spent $7,400 on a 7-night trip on the world’s biggest cruise ship. Here's what everything cost, from a $3,800 cabin to a $990 drink package

Cruising has never been pricier, as the soaring demand has driven up fares across the industry. In addition to higher fares, onboard add-ons, including drink packages, specialty restaurants, and shore excursions, have also been subject to price hikes.

Icon of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, has earned a reputation for pushing the boundaries in size, amenities, and price. When she launched in January 2024, it wasn't uncommon to find windowless inside cabins advertised for $2,000 per person!

There are 5 choices I'm really glad I made on my cruise on the world's largest ship — but one thing I'd skip next time for a better experience

I recently returned from a 7-night cruise aboard the world's largest ship, Icon of the Seas. I had been looking forward to this particular vacation for nearly a year and a half, and though hours of planning helped ensure a memorable experience, there's one mistake I wouldn't make again.

I tried Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class for the first time. I hated the crowds but loved the never-ending activities

When I started cruising, I never knew there were ships as big as Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class.

I began cruising on smaller vessels such as Freedom of the Seas, Carnival Elation, and Disney Magic. Though I enjoyed every cruise, the smaller ships did not have as much entertainment, and I would sometimes get bored or tired of relaxing by the pool deck.
