Carnival Cruise Line announced today it will develop a new port in the city of Freeport, Bahamas.
Cruise Critic is reporting that local media outlets are confirming that the cruise line plans were revealed at a public meeting on February 4. The initial plans show the new port will be named "Grand Port" and offer guests dining locations, entertainment and retail spots.
Other reports indicate a variety of shore excursions, including kayaking and snorkeling, as well as watercraft, ATV and Segway tours also will be offered. The Bahamas' Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Alexander Minnis streamed the meeting on his Facebook page.
The new port is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs for Bahamians.
