Celebrity Cruises celebrated this past weekend with the conclusion of its ship Celebrity Summit's first full season homeporting in the U.S. town of Boston, Massachusetts. The notable celebration was hosted by Celebrity Cruises President and Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.
The ship Celebrity Summit has been homeported at Flynn Cruiseport Boston, Massachusetts. This cruise port had previously welcomed back the return of the cruise line industry in 2022 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Between April and November, 126 ships pass through this port, from 19 different cruise lines. The Flynn Cruiseport plays an important role in the tourism industry for Boston, as it provides over 2,200 jobs and makes an annual economic impact of about $135.5 million for the area of Massachusetts.
“We are nearing the close of a terrific cruise season here in Boston, where we not only welcomed thousands of passengers back to Flynn Cruiseport Boston, but also hosted Celebrity Summit as a homeport ship for the first time. I want to thank Lisa Lutoff-Perlo and Celebrity for their support over the years, and we look forward to working with them to provide our passengers excellent service next season,” stated Massport Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Wieland.
“Our first season homeporting in Boston was an absolutely thrilling success and one of Celebrity’s most sought-after itineraries,” stated CEO and President of Celebrity Cruises, Lutoff-Perlo, who is a native of Boston herself.
This season of homeporting in Boston for Celebrity Summit lasted for a portion of the summer. During the season, Celebrity Summit transported guests on 10-, 11-, and 12- night cruise sailings along the Northeast coastline. These sailings made stops at destinations such as Maine and Canada. “Having grown up in New England, this area is near and dear to my heart and having our guests experience the stunning scenery onboard the exquisite Celebrity Summit has brought me a lot of joy,” says Lutoff-Perlo.
The Celebrity Summit is currently scheduled to make a return to Boston next year, 2023, from August to October. These voyages next year are set to take guests to more New England destinations such as Martha’s Vineyard. Upon its next New England season in 2023, Celebrity will be visiting a new brand-new port, Rockland, before docking in Quebec Canada.
In 2019, Celebrity Summit underwent a $500 million “revolution”, where it received new re-imaginings and touchups. The ship now features new luxuries, freshly appointed restaurants and staterooms, as well as a redesigned spa and lounges. Included in the renovation, was the addition of Celebrity’s all-exclusive The Retreat. This exclusive area allows guests to enjoy a private sundeck, live entertainment, fine dining, and more.
Now that this season has been wrapped up for Celebrity Cruises, the brand prepares to pivot its ship, the Celebrity Summit, to warmer waters. The Celebrity Summit is scheduled to begin its next cruising season in The Caribbean.
