Discovery Princess will be name of Princess Cruises sixth Royal Class ship

Princess Cruises announced it will name its sixth Royal Class ship the Discovery Princess.

Based out of Los Angeles, Discovery Princess will be the first new cruise ship for Princess Cruises to be based on the West Coast.

Princess Cruises announced a special tie-in with Discover Channel's Shark Week event by offering Summer of Shark activities showcased on eight summer sailings, now through July 27, 2019.

Six cruise guests confirmed dead following Alaska floatplane midair collision

Local authorities confirmed the death toll following a midair collision has risen to six, including four Americans, one Australian and one Canadian.

Ten additional guests on the planes survived the accident and received medical attention.

The accident occurred when two floatplanes collided in midair on Monday, about eight nautical miles from Ketchikan. Both planes were carrying Princess Cruises guests from the Royal Princess cruise ship.

Princess Cruises expressed their regret via Twitter.

Four cruise passengers die in in Alaska floatplanes collision

Four people and two more from a Princess Cruises ship are missing after two sightseeing floatplanes collided near near Ketchikan, Alaska, on Monday.

The passengers were aboard planes booked through Princess Cruises shore excursions.  One plane was carrying 10 people from the Royal Princess, while the other plane was an independent excursion tour and carried four other passengers from Royal Princess.

Princess Cruises to expand MedallionClass to six more ships in 2020

Princess Cruises announced today it will expand its MedallionClass Vacations to six additional ships in 2020, which will bring MedallionClass for the first time to Australia, New Zealand and even a world cruise.

Gratuities on Princess Cruises going up in May 2019

Princess Cruises informed travel agents that it intends to raise the daily gratuity rate on all voyages departing on or after May 21, 2019.

The new gratuity rates are going up by $1:

  • Interior/Oceanview/Balcony — $14.50 USD per guest, per day
  • Mini suites (including Club Class) — $15.50 USD per guest, per day
  • Full Suites — $16.50 USD per guest, per day

Guests who wish to prepay their gratuities at the current amount may do so through May 14, 2019 at 11:59PM PST.

Princess Cruises offering celebrity speaker series for west coast cruises

Princess Cruises' Royal Princess will be sailing from the West Coast and offers guests the  opportunity to hear from an impressive line-up of celebrity speakers as they sail to the sunny Mexican Riviera.

Now through April 27, 2019, Royal Princess departs on seven-day cruises to the Mexican Riviera from the Port of Los Angeles (San Pedro, Calif.) before heading up for a new Alaska season in early May.

Princess Cruises announced that its recently announced cruise around the world has become the fastest-selling World Cruise in the cruise line's history. 

The 111-day roundtrip voyage on Island Princess from Ft. Lauderdale departs on January 3, 2021, and the 111-day roundtrip cruise from Los Angeles departs January 17, 2021. A 97-day World Cruise from Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale is also offered, setting sail on January 17, 2021. 

Princess Cruises announces its most robust world cruise for 2021

Princess Cruises announces its 2021 World Cruise itinerary ever with more ports and countries than ever before.

The 111-day sailing will visit 50 destinations in 32 countries, across six continents, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America and North America.

The 111-day roundtrip voyage from Ft. Lauderdale departs on January 3, 2021, and the 111-day roundtrip cruise from Los Angeles departs January 17, 2021. A 97-day World Cruise from Los Angeles to Ft. Lauderdale is also offered, setting sail on January 17, 2021.

Princess Cruises orders two new LNG-powered cruise ships

Princess Cruises announced it has entered into a deal with Fincantieri to build two new 175,000-ton cruise ships.  These will be the largest ships ever built in Italy.

Each ship will have double-occupancy capacity for approximately 4,300 passengers and feature a dual-fuel system, primarily powered by LNG.

The new ships will be delivered in Monfalcone in late 2023 and in spring 2025.

Today's deal follows up on a memorandum of agreement signed in July 2018.
