Princess Cruises cancels more cruises due to Canada and Australia bans

Princess Cruises announced more cruises will be cancelled on six of its cruise ships due to the expanding cruise bans from Canada and Australia.

Princess Cruises cancelled the Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 sailings that depart and return to Australia:

  • Sea Princess
  • Majestic Princess
  • Sun Princess 
  • Sapphire Princess

In addition, Princess Cruises vessels that visited Seattle or Vancouver, BC, in September or October are cancelled. This includes:

CDC releases report on coronavirus outbreak on Diamond Princess cruise ship

The Centers for Disease Control released the results of their initial investigation of COVID-19 among crew members onboard the Diamond Princess.

Diamond Princess is the Princess Cruises ship that was quarantined for many weeks near Japan, and became a focal point of the initial coronavirus outbreak.

The CDC released their early findings that COVID-19 was likely first spread from passengers to crew members and subsequently spread among the crew, especially among food service workers.

Princess Cruises announced it has instituted a voluntarily pause on its cruises for 60 days, due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Princess is offering guests the opportunity to transfer 100% of the money paid for their cancelled cruise to a future cruise of their choice.

Coronavirus forces Princess Cruises to announce 60 day halt of all cruises

Princess Cruises announced it will institute a 60 day "voluntary and temporary" pause of its cruises due to the global spread of Coronavirus.

The change impacts all sailings departing March 12 to May 10.

Those currently onboard a cruise that will end in the next five days will continue to sail as expected through the end of the itinerary so that onward travel arrangements are not disrupted. 

Current voyages that are underway and extend beyond March 17 will be ended at the most convenient location for guests, factoring in operational requirements. 

Princess Cruises temporarily changes cancellation policy due to Coronavirus

Princess Cruises announced that due to the worldwide COVID-19 situation, they are temporarily making some changes to their cancellation policy for cruises departing up to May 31, 2020.

The cancellation window will move much closer to sail date, in order to provide guests with more flexibility in changing their minds.

Princess Cruises giving crew on Coronavirus infested cruise ship two months paid vacation

The crew on the Diamond Princess that is taking care of a quarantined ship dealing with a coronavirus outbreak will receive two months paid vacation for their troubles.

Princess Cruises confirmed the paid two months of vacation for the crew.

Cruise line spokesman Roger Frizzell commented on the decision:

Princess Cruises will have early access to new satellite internet access

Princess Cruises announced a new partnership with SES to provide the cruise line early access to O3b mPOWER network augmenting the Princess MedallionClass experience as it scales across the fleet. 

The new satellite network promises to deliver "unmatched and ubiquitous global Wi-Fi service levels", as well as "seamless land/sea digital experience enablement".

Sky Princess joins Princess Cruises fleet

Princess Cruises took delivery of Sky Princess from shipbuilder Fincantieri at an official handover ceremony at the shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

The first ship designed from the ground up as a Princess MedallionClass ship, the 143,700-ton, 3,660-guest Sky Princess features an evolution of the design platform used for the cruise line's previous Royal-Class ships.

Based out of Los Angeles, Discovery Princess will be the first new cruise ship for Princess Cruises to be based on the West Coast.
