Royal Caribbean has pulled the plug on all of its scheduled cruises to Alaska on one of its cruise ships.

Quantum of the Seas had her entire 2021 Alaska cruise season cancelled because of the global health crisis.

The cancellations include the transpacific repositioning cruises.

Royal Caribbean announced new sailings for Winter 2021 out of Barbados, which would put them out of the CDC's jurisdiction.

For the first time a Royal Caribbean ship will homeport from Barbados to offer 7- and 14-night cruises to destinations in the Southern Caribbean.

The new cruises are available to book immediately, and will be offered onboard Grandeur of the Seas. Guests will be able to choose from sailings to destinations in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Cartagena, Panama, Costa Rica and more.

Royal Caribbean pulled the plug on cruises restarting in early spring.

The Miami-based cruise line announced on Tuesday it would extend its now year-long cruise shutdown through the end of April 2021, which means nearly all of its sailings in March and April are cancelled.

The two exceptions are the successful restart of cruises in Singapore on Quantum of the Seas, which are not affected by today's announcement, and China sailings on Spectrum of the Seas, February 16-28, are suspended.

Royal Caribbean announced this week it has reached a deal to sell two of its cruise ships.

Majesty of the Seas and Empress of the Seas have been sold to an undisclosed buyer in Asia-Pacific region, and will depart the fleet later this month.

These are the first ships Royal Caribbean International has sold since the cruise industry shutdown in March. While other cruise lines have sold or scrapped vessels, Royal Caribbean had been able to avoid such a fate until now.

A day after Royal Caribbean ended a cruise due to one passenger testing positive for Covid-19, local authorities say it was a false alarm.

The first Royal Caribbean cruise ship to restart operations has encountered its first positive case of COVID-19.

The cruise line's new health protocols went into effect after one guest reported not feeling well to the ship's medical personnel.

After the guest tested positive, the medical staff isolated the guest and tested all crew members and guests who came into contact with the guest.

It has been a long road back, but Royal Caribbean restarted cruises this week with Quantum of the Seas in Singapore.

After months of careful planning and collaboration with Singapore's health and tourism authorities, the cruise line's Quantum Class ship departed from Marina Bay Cruise Centre on the first of its 3- to 4-night Ocean Getaways. 

These cruises visit no ports and are only available to residents of Singapore.

Royal Caribbean joined other cruise lines in cancelling its January 2021 cruises, and also cancelled cruises through the end of February.

As Royal Caribbean works towards getting approval to sail again from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, it announced its cruises through February 28, 2021.

In addition, Australia sailings are suspended through April 30, 2021.

Today's announcement does not apply to two ships:

Royal Caribbean has plenty of people to choose from when it begins its test cruises, because over 100,000 people have volunteered.

Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO, shared on his Facebook page on Sunday the staggering amount of people who would love to go on a free cruise to help test out the new health protocols.
