Can you still have fun on an older cruise ship? I recently sailed on both MSC Divina and MSC Seascape, the oldest and the newest MSC ships currently sailing in the Caribbean, in a bid to answer this question. 

MSC Cruises is known for its competitive pricing, and I was able to get a super cheap four-day cruise, followed by a 7-day cruise on the much newer MSC Seascape. 

When I boarded my first MSC cruise, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Most reviews I had read of the cruise line were subpar at best, and although I usually don’t put too much faith into reviews, I couldn’t help but be a little apprehensive.

MSC Cruises, a Swiss-based cruise line, is controversial amongst many cruise fans. Long established in the European market, the cruise line has recently been gaining popularity among North American cruisers, promising low prices, trendy ships, and world-class destinations.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve (Ocean Cay) is MSC Cruises' private island in the Bahamas. Just 65 miles east of Miami, it is an idyllic secluded paradise and a frequent stop on many of the cruise line's Caribbean itineraries.  

Launched last November, MSC Seascape is MSC Cruises’ newest cruise ship sailing the sunny waters of the Caribbean. 

It is nearly identical to its sister ship MSC Seashore, retaining many of the great benefits of the earlier Seaside class of ships. MSC Seascape is beautifully designed, with top-notch finishes and décor. The ship offers plenty for cruisers of all ages, with a number of entertainment, dining, and activity options onboard. 

I recently sailed on MSC Divina for the first time on a super cheap four-night cruise to the Bahamas. 

Being an older ship, I was able to get a fantastic deal, $185 per person, including w-fi and drinks. 

I spent almost $4,000 on an interior room in MSC’s Yacht Club with 24-hour butler and concierge service. 

Some of you may think that’s nuts - $4K for an inside cabin! But hold on for a minute before you dismiss the idea; it comes with some amazing perks. 

A suite with no balcony, does that even make sense? This was my initial question when I learned that MSC Cruises has inside cabins in their Yacht Club section. The European cruise line has developed a premium ship within a ship concept that they describe as an onboard sanctuary that provides an all-inclusive experience. And the interior cabin option has tons of unique benefits at a lower cost than a traditional suite. I was intrigued, to say the least.
