Carnival Sunshine Rooms to Avoid (2026)

Carnival Sunshine Rooms to Avoid

Picking the right stateroom for your Carnival cruise matters quite a bit. With options ranging from small inside cabins to roomy suites, there are plenty of choices.

Throughout my cruising career, I've had my fair share of bad cruise cabins. For example, my Junior Suite on Carnival Vista was located so far forward that the motion was impossible to ignore.

Carnival recently announced that its oldest ship, Carnival Sunshine, will head to Europe in 2027 to offer a series of itineraries to bucket-list destinations like Morocco, Turkey, Montenegro, Italy, and Tunisia.

Whether you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime European getaway or your next Caribbean cruise, here’s a look at the Carnival Sunshine staterooms you want to avoid.

Carnival Sunshine Rooms to Avoid

Cabins on Deck 3

Image
Cabin

Carnival Sunshine's multi-deck atrium begins on Deck 3. While this is where you'll find important things like the Guest Services and Port Adventure desk, it’s also one of the ship’s busiest areas.

As such, cabins located near the atrium are exposed to a lot of foot traffic, crowds, and late-night activity.

These staterooms include:

  • 3102 — 3138
  • 3104 — 3140
  • 3101 — 3143
  • 3103 — 3141

Interior upper/lower staterooms

Carnival Sunshine Upper Lower Interior

Inside cabins are usually the smallest type of stateroom on a cruise ship. However, Carnival Sunshine has a specific category of inside rooms that's smaller than standard interior cabins.

Interior upper/lower rooms are classified as Category 1A cabins and can accommodate just two guests because of their cramped layout.

As such, if you're traveling with a partner, you can't configure the beds together since the room features two separate upper and lower bunk beds.

Interior upper/lower cabins on Carnival Sunshine include:

  • Deck 1 — 1401, 1402, 1405, 1406, 1606
  • Deck 2 — 2101, 2102, 2105, 2106
  • Deck 6 — 6126, 6127

Cabins on Deck 5

Deck 5 on Carnival Sunshine is another hub of activity, home to venues like Ocean Plaza, the Sunshine Casino, RedFrog Pub, and the Limelight Lounge.

Although this deck doesn’t have a ton of cabins, those located toward the aft of the ship aren't the most ideal for light sleepers because of all the nearby nightlife.

These staterooms include:

  • 5302 — 5336
  • 5310 — 5340
  • 5311 — 5341
  • 5349 — 5355
  • 5301 — 5335
  • 5342 — 5343

Staterooms at the front of the ship

Vanity

Carnival often charges less for cabins in the front (forward) and back (aft) of the ship. While it might seem smart to save money on your stateroom's location, it's important to be aware of the cons of these rooms.

For starters, cabins near the ship's bow typically experience more motion, especially in rough seas. As such, these rooms are not ideal for those who are sensitive to motion.

Forward cabins on a lower deck may also hear the noisy anchor drop in tender ports like Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays. This is something to keep in mind if you're sailing to The Bahamas from Norfolk, Virginia.

Cabins on Deck 6 above the Sunshine Casino

Deck 6

While many cruisers don't have a problem with staterooms on Deck 6, one Facebook user shared that they stayed above the casino and regretted it.

Another person added that they were on Deck 6 above the Limelight Theater and could hear the music from the shows. However, the theater shows don't run as late as the nightclub, casino, or other entertainment venues.

Here are rooms on Deck 6 to be wary of:

  • 6102 — 6170
  • 6114 — 6164
  • 6101 — 6171
  • 6115 — 6165
  • 6194 — 6260
  • 6200 — 6256

Connecting staterooms

Connecting cabins are great options for families who don't want to cram into a single stateroom. In addition to the extra space, two staterooms mean that you'll have two (yes, two!) bathrooms.

That said, adjoining rooms can be a nuisance for parties who don't know each other. For example, you could be kept awake by someone else's children or loud, late-night conversations.

I wouldn't hesitate to book connecting cabins for my family or friends, but I would definitely take caution when reserving one of these rooms if you don't know the neighbors. This is especially true when traveling during rowdier seasons, like spring break.

Staterooms on Deck 8 under the Lido Deck

Carnival Sunshine

There are a lot of cabins underneath the Lido Deck, which is home to Carnival Sunshine's main pool, buffet, a few bars, Guy's Burger Joint, and BlueIguana Cantina.

On sea days, the Lido Deck is a hub of activity, with everything from poolside competitions to live music and more. At night, it is where cruisers go to party underneath the stars.

As such, cabins underneath the Lido Deck are subject to random noise throughout the day and evening, starting in the early hours of the morning, with crew members dragging chairs to arrange them for guests to use.

GTY cabins

Guarantee staterooms are usually the cheapest cabins on any cruise ship, but they come with uncertainty and aren't the best choice for all travelers. While saving money on your base cruise fare may seem advantageous, you may regret your "savvy" decision if you're randomly assigned a cabin in an undesirable location.

A guarantee cabin guarantees you a room on the ship within your chosen category, whether interior, ocean view, balcony, or suite. That said, it does not guarantee you a specific cabin or location.

Once you are assigned your stateroom, you can't change it unless you’re willing to pay for an upgrade — pending availability. As such, this means you could be assigned an interior upper/lower stateroom, a cabin with an obstructed view, or a room near the front of the ship.

Carnival Sunshine itinerary: Where does the 29-year-old cruise ship sail to?

Image
Carnival Sunshine

Carnival Sunshine is the oldest ship in Carnival's fleet. She entered service in 1996 as Carnival Destiny and was transformed into Carnival Sunshine during a $155 million dry dock in 2013.

As of January 2026, she sails exclusively from Norfolk, Virginia, to The Bahamas, Bermuda, and Canada/New England. However, she will move to Europe in May 2027, where she will offer a series of port-intensive cruises around the region.

Then, Carnival Sunshine will reposition to Galveston, Texas, in November 2027. She will remain in the Gulf through April 2028. Itineraries range from short 4-night cruises to Cozumel, up to 10-night Caribbean voyages.

According to Carnival's website, pricing starts at around $379 per person for a 6-night cruise in January 2027 from Norfolk. Balconies are more expensive, coming in at around $770 per person.
