One cruise passenger is going viral for all the wrong reasons after being captured jumping off the ship's pier in Cozumel, Mexico.
According to multiple TikToks, the unidentified male was sailing aboard Carnival Breeze when he decided to leap from the Puerta Maya pier in Cozumel on May 30, 2026.
Two other ships, Radiance of the Seas and Margaritaville at Sea's Islander, were also in Cozumel. However, they were docked at different piers: Punta Langosta and the International Cruise Terminal (SSA Mexico), respectively.
Videos circulating on social media show the cruise passenger in the water in Cozumel before swimming away from the cruise Puerta Maya pier as onlookers react from the dock and ship decks.
"I genuinely want to know what the plan was. Because seeing open water and immediately jumping wasn’t on my cruise bingo card," itscrystallll captioned their 26-second TikTok.
Someone else said, "He’s swimming away from [the rescue team]! They had to rope him like a calf to bring him in!"
One clip shows the pilot boat, which is used for harbor operations, quickly approaching the swimmer's position, while another shows the rescue team throwing a bright orange life preserver into the ocean for him to grab hold of.
However, the unidentified passenger defiantly resisted the assistance, choosing to ignore the life preserver and swim underneath the pier away from the rescue team. He was even caught floating on his back with a life preserver drifting just a few feet away.
When the pilot boat reached him, he briefly latched onto the bow before losing his grip and falling back into the ocean.
According to bystanders, he was eventually rescued from the water and wheeled back to the Carnival Breeze ship, which was on the third day of a four-night Western Caribbean cruise from Galveston, Texas, according to CruiseMapper.
Getting banned from a cruise line
Foolish actions like jumping overboard off a cruise ship or pier are taken very seriously by cruise lines. In situations like this, it's likely that the passenger will be subject to severe consequences, possibly going as far as banning them from future sailings with Carnival Cruise Line.
Carnival isn't the only line that reserves the right to ban guests whose behavior creates safety risks for themselves, crew members, or other passengers.
It's also important that you adhere to the rules outlined in the cruise contract, as violating these terms can result in lifetime bans. For example, one couple was banned from future Carnival cruises after they shared footage of themselves fishing from their stateroom's balcony.
In a statement shared with Orlando's WDBO, a Carnival spokesperson said, "Fishing from our ships is prohibited. We have identified the guests, and they will not be cruising on Carnival again."
Other guests posted a video revealing they had successfully smuggled a handgun onboard, which was being kept in the stateroom's safe.
Carnival quickly responded to the incident and stated, "The guests who recorded the video have not sailed with us since April and have been prohibited from sailing Carnival in the future."
