Carnival is set to increase gratuities for passengers for the first time since 2023.

Starting April 2, 2026, the cruise line will raise the daily gratuity rate by $1 per day, bringing the new rate for standard cabins to $17.00 per person, up from $16.00, and suites to $19.00 per person, up from $18.00. It is the same amount for all passengers, regardless of age.

However, if you've already booked your sailing, you can prepay your gratuities in advance to lock in the current rate and save money. If you wait until you're onboard and are cruising after April 2, you will be subject to the new higher rate.

The incident happened at MSC Cruises' private island, MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, while guests were waiting to return to the ship.

According to a video shared on social media, the front mooring lines securing the bow snapped and sent the front of the ship drifting from the pier as strong winds swept through the area. Thankfully, the aft lines remained intact.

Unsurprisingly, the announcement has drawn sharp criticism from both loyal and first-time cruisers. Many have taken to social media to express their disappointment and frustration.
