The best cruise lines for money, dining, and more, according to Cruise Critic's editors

Nassau-Cruises-Docked

When planning a cruise, choosing the right line is as important as the destination.

Each cruise line has its own style, atmosphere, and amenities. Some of the big names — including Royal Caribbean and Carnival — cater to families, offering waterparks, kid-friendly activities, and more, while others focus on adult-oriented experiences. So how do you pick the best cruise line?

Cruise Critic's 17th Best in Cruise Awards rankings are a good place to start. The online travel publication features more than 650,000 cruise reviews and hosts the world's largest online cruise community, making its 2026 award selections highly trustworthy.

"What makes Cruise Critic’s awards stand out among a sea of 'best of' lists is the expertise behind the selections," said Mark Patscher, General Manager of Cruise Critic.

"Our team of editors has sailed on hundreds of cruise ships – from the largest mega-ships to the smallest expedition vessels. We comb every corner of the globe to gather first-hand insights into a wide range of cruise offerings available to travelers. That, combined with the ratings, reviews, and opinions from our community of more than two million cruisers, ensures these awards are a true gauge of which cruise lines stand out as the absolute best of the best this year."

Here are the 2025 award highlights.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival delivers the best value for your vacation dollar, with base fares lower than many competitors. That said, the cruise line doesn't skimp on inclusions or leave guests feeling nickel-and-dimed.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages is a relatively new player in the cruise industry. Since entering service in 2021, the adult-only cruise line has redefined cruising and delivered cutting-edge innovation. Not only that, but they have nearly all-inclusive fares. In this year's Cruise Critic Best in Cruise Awards, Virgin also won best dining and entertainment, surpassing established lines like Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and more.

"From the moment we stepped aboard, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. From seamless onboarding and deboarding to the incredible crew and entertainment, there’s truly nothing that could’ve made this experience better. We can’t wait to sail again — and highly recommend Margaritaville at Sea Islander to anyone looking for a truly special voyage!" said Cruise Critic Member JD94

MSC Cruises' first purpose-built ship for the North American market debuted in 2025. MSC World America offers a family-friendly experience on one of the world's largest ships for a fraction of what it costs to sail aboard Icon of the Seas — think over-the-water swings, waterslides, bumper cars, and more. The cruise line is also expanding to other markets, including Galveston and Seattle.

Best Cruise Cabins

Disney Cruise Line

Disney's cabins combine comfort, style, and magic on every ship, from the Disney Magic to the brand-new Disney Destiny. For example, most family staterooms have split bathrooms, meaning the shower is in a separate room from the toilet.

Princess Cruises is great for couples seeking a Bahamian getaway or a culturally rich journey in Asia, Europe, and beyond. The premium cruise line emphasizes an adult-focused experience, with things like craft cocktail bars, high-quality specialty restaurants, luxurious spas, enriching lectures, and more.

Royal Caribbean’s Royal Suite Class takes family-friendly luxury to the next level. On newer ships, the suites are spacious and elegantly designed, with perks ranging from priority check-in to concierge service, access to the suite-only dining room, and even a Royal Genie (AKA your own butler!). The largest (and most expensive) suite at sea is the Royal Family Townhouse, though other suites are also ideal for those who want a taste of luxury without shelling out $20,000 per person.
