Determined to compare the industry's biggest cruise ships, I sailed on both Icon and Utopia this year. How different are the two largest ships in the world?

I took trips on a 1-year-old Carnival Cruise Line ship and a 27-year-old one. The differences show the evolution of the industry

If you take one look at Carnival’s oldest and newest cruise ship, you can easily see how cruise ship design has evolved over the last few decades. While traditional ships were built to be smaller and offer a more simple onboard experience, modern-day vessels are massive, floating resorts.

Recently, I sailed on Carnival’s oldest ship in its fleet, Carnival Sunshine, on a quick weekend sailing from Charleston, South Carolina. Carnival Sunshine was first built in 1996, making her older than other Fantasy Class ships.

I’ve sailed with Norwegian Cruise Line nine times so far, but until my most recent two voyages, I had never set foot in one of their specialty restaurants. Despite the allure of these extra-cost venues, I always found Norwegian’s complimentary dining options more than satisfying.

7 Dollar Tree items I bought for my cruise that saved me money and stress

One of my favorite aspects of preparing for my cruise is having a pre-vacation shopping spree. Before every trip I take, I usually head over to Target for some last-minute essentials. I love finding new outfits, accessories, or products to bring on my cruises.

Do I actually need anything during this shopping spree? That’s up for debate! However, it’s one of the joys that I find when preparing for any upcoming trips.

Disney cruise canceled as Hurricane Milton tears through the Gulf

Disney Cruise Line canceled an upcoming 3-night cruise onboard Disney Wish because of the expected impacts of explosive Hurricane Milton.

Passengers booked on the October 11, 2024, sailing were informed that their cruise would not proceed as scheduled.

"We have been closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and its projected path, which is expected to move through Central Florida later this week," the email to confirmed guests reads.

How I spent $50 on a Carnival cruise to find the best deal

I recently sailed on my first-ever Carnival cruise, and it was packed with learning experiences about this iconic cruise brand, as well as discovering everything the Carnival Valor ship had to offer.

I traveled with a good friend and fellow writer, Allie, who is a Carnival Cruise expert. She showed me the ins and outs of what it’s like to sail with the cruise line known for fun and affordability.
