A passenger injured while sailing on the Carnival Glory cruise ship filed a maritime personal injury lawsuit seeking damages for extensive medical expenses and loss of cruise experience.
Angely Hope Roper, 80, of Georgia, was a fare-paying guest vacationing aboard Carnival Glory when she slipped and fell in the ship's main dining room in May 2025, as reported by Holzberg Legal.
The incident happened in the Platinum Dining Room on Deck 4, with Roper alleging that she slipped on a concealed puddle of water as she walked from the carpeted area to the linoleum floor.
She supposedly landed directly on her left kneecap, with a responding crew member admitting that the floor was wet from a spill caused by another cruise line employee.
The lawsuit, which was filed in the Southern District of Florida, claims that Carnival Corporation breached its non-delegable duty to exercise reasonable care for the safety of its passengers, as it had direct knowledge of the hazard before the injury occurred.
According to the complaint, Carnival failed to place visible signage and caution cones alerting passengers of the danger, despite the ship's crew being aware of the hazard. As such, the lack of proper signage, caution cones, or verbal warnings left the ship without a safe walkway in the dining room.
Roper's legal team claims that she sustained significant bodily injuries, including a comminuted fracture of the patella in her left knee, along with torn ligaments in her right wrist, that required extensive surgical intervention.
The left patella, for example, had to be reconstructed, with ligament reattachment utilizing screws. Long-term effects include degenerative changes in the left knee joint and a loss of capacity to perform normal daily activities, indicating that she's suffering from ongoing pain, mental anguish, and a permanent inability to walk without difficulty.
Roper's lawsuit seeks compensation for her medical expenses, along with damages for the lost benefit of her vacation, which was cut short by the injury.
She hopes to hold Carnival Corporation accountable for the alleged negligent failure to maintain safe premises and the negligent failure to warn that disrupted her vacation and permanently impacted her health.
