When you book, purchase and check in for a cruise, you'll receive a cruise contract. Most passengers simply acknowledge that they have seen it and agree to it without actually reading through the fine print.

Although we can't say we blame them for not sifting through dozens of pages of legal jargon, these contracts outline your rights and liabilities as a passenger and stipulate the circumstances under which a cruise line can change what you've paid for or refuse to give you your money back.

Carnival Cruise Line cancels December 2020 cruises

Carnival Corporation joined the parade of cruise lines announcing their December 2020 cruises are cancelled.

Carnival announced its North American cruise line brands will extend their existing pause in operations, suspending cruise voyages between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31, 2020.

MSC Cruises extends cruise cancellations through end of December 2020

MSC Cruises announced on Monday it has cancelled its December 2020 cruises through to and including December 31, 2020.

The new round of cancellations affects three ships in Florida: MSC Seaside in Port Canaveral, and MSC Meraviglia and MSC Armonia both in PortMiami.

CDC lifts cruise ship ban with conditional restart plan

After seven months of the cruise industry being shutdown in the United States, it looks like it may be coming to an end.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced on Friday the No Sail order will not be extended at the end of October, and instead permit cruise lines to demonstrate they can start cruising again safely.

The No Sail order was set to expire on October 31, but will instead be lifted so that cruise lines can attempt a conditional, phased-in return to cruise ship operations.

SilverSea takes delivery of new Silver Moon cruise ship

SilverSea took delivery on Friday of its newest cruise ship, the Silver Moon.

The delivery was made by Fincantieri at the at the Ancona shipyard in Italy.

Silver Moon is the second of three cruise ships to be built by Fincantieri, following the Silver Muse, which was delivered in 2017. The third ship, Silver Dawn, will be delivered in 2021.

Canada bans cruise ships until at least February

Canada has extended its cruise ship ban through the end of February.

Transport Canada made the announcement on Thursday to continue not allowing cruise ships to enter Canadian waters until at least February 28, 2021.

Canada has banned cruise ships with more than 100 passengers since March.

Royal Caribbean Group released its third quarter 2020 results, in addition to a business update for investors to get a sense of where the company is during the shutdown.

On March 13, 2020 and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company voluntarily suspended its global cruise operation.

The company resumed limited cruise operations outside of the U.S. in July with three vessels from TUI cruises and two vessels from Hapag Lloyd, and in September, for a limited period, with one Silversea ship.
