Carnival recently made one of its older cruise ships even better with a simple cabin upgrade.
Carnival Valor, a Conquest Class ship that debuted in 2004, recently underwent a comprehensive dry dock to elevate guest comfort and add new features.
Notable additions are the brand-new Waterworks aqua park with twin slides and Heroes Tribute Bar & Lounge. However, one of the most underrated improvements can be found in the ship's staterooms.

All cabins aboard Carnival Valor received new bedside lamps with USB, USB-C, and standard American outlets, making it easier for guests to charge their devices. Not only that, but the staterooms have enhanced lighting to create a brighter atmosphere.
It seems as though Carnival plans to bring these snazzy lamps to other ships in the fleet, too. "We added these new lamps on the Carnival Valor during dry dock and will be doing this to other ships in future dry docks," wrote Carnival's Brand Ambassador, John Heald, on Facebook.
"They have USB and ummmm the smaller one [USB-C] and a power plug for things like CPAP perhaps."

Older Carnival ships with fewer standard outlets tend to have built-in lamps with extra ports. However, these outlets have typically been limited to USB only.
For example, I sailed aboard Carnival Conquest last year. The cabin had just one American and one European outlet. Thankfully, there were two built-in lamps with USB ports, so my friend and I didn't have to bicker over limited plugs.
This also made charging our phones at night more convenient since we didn't have to leave our devices on the vanity.

With more and more cruisers buying new cell phones, the need to have convenient USB-C ports — or at least have an American outlet that can be used by different charging types — has become increasingly important.
The response from guests has been very positive

A lot of cruisers praised the addition in the comments of Heald's post, particularly from those who use CPAP machines.
"...[M]y husband won’t need an extension cord to plug in his CPAP and me trying not to trip over it in the middle of the night!!!!" wrote Mary Lou Prokop Roman.
Dave McCulloch added, "Yes!!! Nothing [ruins] the flow of a room like a [taped-down] extension cord for our CPAPS!"

"[I] love the functionality. I can charge my phone and plug in my CPAP all in one lamp -- and I don't have to bring an extension cord with me," said Jeremy Rynca.
