Carnival suddenly cancels one month of cruises on its newest ship less than 3 months after it set sail

Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter sail side by side

Carnival Cruise Line announced the cancellation of all sailings aboard one of its newest ships between May 17 and June 14, 2027.

Carnival Adventure officially joined Carnival's fleet in Sydney, Australia, in March. The vessel previously sailed under the P&O Australia brand, which ceased operations after over 90 years in service.

As such, the iconic red, white, and blue funnel is noticeably missing. Still, Carnival promises guests many of the same signature experiences they've come to love, including Fun Squad-led entertainment, lively deck parties, and tasty dining options — along with special features unique to the Australian market.

However, less than 3 months after its debut for Carnival, guests were notified that a slew of sailings were suddenly cancelled.

Six different itineraries from Sydney to destinations like the Great Barrier Reef, Vanuatu, and Moreton Island were impacted. They range in length from 3 to 9 nights.

According to Carnival, the reason for the cancellations was a "short-term change in itinerary plans for Carnival Adventure."

Thankfully, passengers were given over two years' notice. Guests can either opt for a full refund or rebook another Carnival voyage.

Those who choose the latter will receive onboard credit as compensation for the inconvenience, depending on the length of the original sailing.

Guests booked on the shorter sailings departing June 3 and 11, 2027, who opt not to receive a refund will be given AU$25.00 in onboard credit per person, or roughly $16 USD. The maximum amount of onboard credit per cabin is AU$50.00.

Passengers on the 8 and 9-night itineraries will receive AU$50.00 per person, up to a maximum of AU$100.000 per stateroom. This is approximately $32 USD per sailor.

It's unlikely that Carnival Adventure is leaving Australia

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy welcomes new era for Carnival in Australia

When Carnival acquired the former P&O Adventure, Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, expressed her enthusiasm for the line's long-term commitment to the Australian market.

"Our expansion in Australia demonstrates incredible enthusiasm for our brand, and we’re grateful to our loyal guests who continue to drive our ongoing growth, solidifying Carnival as the world’s most popular cruise line,” she said.

Still, curiosity lingers about what Carnival's plans for the 108,865 gross registered ton (GRT) ship are, especially as the vessel is already scheduled to enter dry dock in Singapore in early 2027.

This likely means the ship could be moving to a different port or has been rented for a month-long private charter.
