Cruise lines are rerouting ships away from a strengthening disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean.
Although the storm hasn't intensified into a tropical storm yet, its path has prompted cruise lines to take precautionary measures to ensure passenger and crew safety.
"Satellite data and surface observations indicate that a low pressue system appears to be forming near eastern Cuba and the southeastern Bahamas," read the National Hurricane Center's 2:00 p.m. EDT report on Friday, September 26.
"This system is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Gradual development of this system is expected, and it will likely become a tropical depression during the next day or so while it moves northwestward or northward across the central and northwestern Bahamas."
Even if the disturbance does not develop into a tropical storm, heavy rains and gusty winds will impact the Dominican Republic, Haiti, the southeastern Bahamas, eastern Cuba, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Carnival, Disney, and Royal Caribbean reroute ships from the strengthening tropical disturbance
Carnival Cruise Line
- Carnival Venezia's visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico, will be extended by two hours on Sept. 27. Moreover, the ship will skip its scheduled port of call in Grand Turk on the 28th.
- Carnival Sunrise's Sept. 25 Bahamas cruise will call at the cruise line's private island earlier than expected. Instead of visiting Half Moon Cay on Sept. 27, the ship will now stop there on Sept. 26.
"Safety is our priority, and we continue to track the storm, factor in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard and local port authorities, and provide timely updates,” Carnival emailed guests.
Disney Cruise Line
- Disney Cruise Line altered the Sept. 26, 2025, sailing aboard the Disney Wish. Instead of visiting Nassau on Saturday and Castaway Cay on Sunday, the ship will call at DCL's private island on Saturday, followed by a sea day.
Royal Caribbean International
- Royal Caribbean's newest ship has been in service for a little over one month and is already adjusting its itinerary due to the brewing storm. Rather than sailing to the Eastern Caribbean, the Sept. 28, 2025, cruise will visit the Western Caribbean ports of Costa Maya, Roatán, and Cozumel.
"We're terribly sorry for this last-minute change caused by the weather - your safety is our top priority. Please remember, being onboard is one of the safest places because our ship can quickly move out of the way of inclement weather," the cruise line said.
- Liberty of the Seas' Sept. 27 cruise won't visit Bermuda. Instead, it will sail north to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.
- Freedom of the Seas will trade a call at Grand Turk for Cozumel, Mexico.
- Utopia of the Seas' Sept. 26 cruise will visit Perfect Day at CocoCay sooner than expected. With Utopia now calling at CocoCay on the 27th, the scheduled visit in Nassau is canceled. The ship will spend one day at sea on Sunday.
