Cruise lines alter more ships' itineraries due to Hurricane Melissa

Carnival Magic at Sea

Cruise ships are continuing to adjust their itineraries following Hurricane Melissa's catastrophic landfall in Jamaica.

Although no longer a hurricane, Melissa plowed through Jamaica earlier this week as a Category 5 storm.

At the storm's strongest, she had maximum sustained winds of 185 mph. Not only that, but Melissa became one of the most intense landfalling Atlantic hurricanes on record (in terms of lowest barometric pressure), tied only with the "Labor Day" storm of 1935.

As such, cruise ships are continuing to avoid Jamaica and The Bahamas while critical relief and recovery efforts are ongoing.

Carnival Cruise Line changed the itineraries of three ships to steer clear of the impacted areas

Carnival Paradise

Carnival Paradise, one of Carnival's oldest cruise ships, skipped her scheduled visit to Half Moon Cay on October 30, 2025.

The Fantasy Class vessel is currently on a 6-night round-trip cruise from Tampa. Although the ship was able to call at Key West, Florida, on Oct. 28, Carnival Paradise bypassed the cruise line's private island in The Bahamas due to the storm’s impact.

The ship will visit Celebration Key on Oct. 31, before returning to Tampa on Nov 2.

Next, Carnival Pride's visit to Princess Cays, another Carnival Corp. private destination, on Oct. 30 was canceled.

Carnival Pride departed Baltimore, Maryland, on Oct. 26 on a 7-night cruise to The Bahamas.

There were no other impacts to the itinerary, and guests got to visit Nassau and Celebration Key as expected.

Finally, Carnival Cruise Line shared that Carnival Magic could not call at Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos, on Oct. 30.

"Safety is our priority, and we continue to track conditions carefully, factoring in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and local port authorities to provide timely updates," reads Carnival's website.

"Guests on upcoming sailings are encouraged to opt-in for sailing alerts via Cruise Manager on Carnival.com and monitor their emails for potential updates from Carnival."
