Disney will not be able to restart cruises in April.

Disney Cruise Line announced it has cancelled its May 2021 cruises, and Disney Magic sailings through August 10.

In a statement on its website, Disney said it needs more time while it waits to get further information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

"As we continue to refine our protocols and await further technical guidance from the CDC, we are canceling all sailings departing through May 2021."

Crew members live on cruise ships while they are working onboard, and they have an entire area of the ship just for them.

How much different are crew areas from guest areas, and what do these facilities look like?

In some cases, crew areas are a lot like guest areas because some crew have guest privileges. But not all crew have these privileges, so cruise lines dedicate certain parts of the ship just for crew.

Surrounding the topic of cruises resuming, Royal Caribbean Group did not indicate if guests would need to get a Covid vaccine in order to cruise.

Royal Caribbean Group held a conference call with investors on Monday to discuss their fourth quarter 2020 earnings, but they would not say if passengers would be required to get a Covid vaccine.

"We're really in an interim period where the vaccines are still relatively new. They're coming out amazingly quickly, but it still is going to take months to get huge numbers of people vaccinated."

"We don't have answers yet."

Cruise ships range in size from a capacity of dozens of passengers, all the way up to well over six thousands people.  That is the population of a small city.

All of those people have to live on a cruise ship for a few days, or even a week or longer. They expect nice conditions in well-kept staterooms where they take a shower and use a private toilet. These facilities use water, which may not seem like much individually, but it soon adds up.

A new cruise ship costs well over one billion dollars and will only last a cruise line around 20 years, with most being refurbished well before this mark. There are then costs for maintenance, food, fuel and crew members.

If you think the cruise fare covers all of those costs, think again. It is not uncommon for cruise fares to dip as low as $60 or $70 dollars a day, so how can these ships ever be profitable?

Luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises informed travel agents and guests it will require all passengers and crew members to have the covid-19 vaccine before sailing with them.

When Crystal begins sailing in May 2021, all passengers will need to be fully vaccinated in order to sail.

The full dose of the vaccine needs to be taken at least 14 days before sailing, and guests will need to provide proof of inoculation before embarkation.

Canada has dominated cruise-related headlines in recent weeks, due to the yearlong extension of its cruise ship ban, which is now set to expire February 28, 2022.

The move prohibits passenger vessels carrying more than 100 people from entering Canadian waters. It also jeopardizes 2021's North America-based voyages to Alaska and New England.

If you're itching to sail as soon as the cruise industry restarts, you could have even more information to absorb when you read your cruise contract, depending on the cruise line you choose.

All lines have contracts of carriage, to which every passenger is required to agree before sailing. However, Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Line and Costa Cruises have added contract wording specifically addressing covid-19.

Cruise or do not, there is no try because Star Wars is coming back to the high seas.

Disney Cruise Line announced it will offer more of its cruises themed to Star Wars with the popular Star Wars Day at Sea sailings in 2022.

The new sailings will take place on 7-night Caribbean cruises on the Disney Fantasy from Port Canaveral, Florida.
