Royal Caribbean will offer Alaska cruises on three ships in 2021

Royal Caribbean announced its 2021 Alaska cruises today, wit the announcement it will offer sailings aboard Ovation, Radiance and Serenade of the Seas in summer 2021.

For the second consecutive year, Royal Caribbean will bring three ships to the region–each featuring the brand’s first line of spa staterooms–and offer varying 7-night itineraries sailing from Seattle, Vancouver, British Columbia; and Seward, Alaska. The cruise line’s 2021 Alaska sailings are now open for bookings.   

Celebrity Cruises ship runs aground in Galapagos

Celebrity Xpedition ran aground last night while sailing in the Galapagos islands.

Celebrity Cruises parent company shared a post on Twitter indicating that the incident occurred, but there were no reported injuries and guests and crew are safe.

Celebrity will evacuate the passengers to a nearby vessel, the Celebrity Flora.

Carnival takes delivery of Carnival Panorama cruise ship

Carnival Cruise Line took delivery of its 27th cruise ship this week, with the Carnival Panorama at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy.

The third of the Vista Class ships, Panorama will now head to Long Beach, California for its naming ceremony and inaugural sailing in December. Carnival Panorama will launch year-round service from Long Beach, Calif., on Dec. 11, becoming the line’s first new ship homeported on the West Coast in more than 20 years.

Royal Caribbean building its first Royal Beach Club in Antingua

Royal Caribbean International announced plans for a new Royal Beach Club Collection, with the first location coming to Antigua in 2021.

Cruise guests will get the first look at what the Royal Beach Club is all about when it opens in Antigua near Fort James. Royal Caribbean says the experience will combine the island's inviting beaches with the Royal Caribbean's signature service and amenities.

Full details on what guests can expect is not available yet, but Royal Caribbean indicated highlights will include: 

Grandfather charged over death of toddler who fell to her death from cruise ship

Salvatore Anello was ordered to be arrested by a judge in Puerto Rico on Monday after prosecutors said his two-year-old granddaughter Chloe Wiegand fell when he raised her up to an open window on the vessel.

He has been accused of negligent homicide.

The incident occurred on Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas.

An attorney for the family has said Chloe Wiegand asked her grandfather to lift her up so she could bang on the glass in a children’s play area. He blamed the cruise ship company for leaving the window inexplicably open.

Norwegian Spirit to undergo 40-day dry dock

Norwegian Cruise line announced a 40-day dry dock for the Norwegian Spirit cruise ship.

The long dry-dock will add new hull artwork, as well as 14 new venues. At a cost of over $100 million, the ship will begin the upgrade at the dry dock facility in Marseille, France on January 2, 2020.

Singer Kelly Clarkson sent an email to her mailing list to ask her fans if they would want to go on a cruise with her.

An email sent to Kelly's mailing list subscribers contains a message from the singer in which she says, "Hey everybody! In case y'all didn’t know, I recently became the Godmother to Norwegian Cruise Line's newest ship, Encore, and I'm super-excited about it!"

Boy dies after falling from MSC Cruises cruise ship

A 12-year-old boy from Germany has reportedly died aboard the MSC Divina cruise ship early Tuesday morning.

According to online reports, the child fell while the ship was sailing from Palermo, Italy to Cagliari, Sardinia. Despite the medical staff's best efforts, the boy died around 3 a.m. Tuesday.
