Port of New Orleans sets new cruise passenger record in 2018

The Port of New Orleans says over 1.18 million cruise passengers passed through the port in 2018, setting a new record the port.

That’s up 2.3 percent compared to 2017. The port attributed the increase to a 23 percent jump in guests taking Mississippi River cruises.

In 2018, 235 passenger ships called on Port NOLA, compared to 229 in 2017, and momentum and diversification continues to build.

The port welcomed its largest cruise ship to date last November with the 4,000-passenger Norwegian Breakaway, which will sail seven-day cruises through April.

Carnival Cruise Line adds new features to its app, including "pizza anywhere"

Carnival Cruise Line rolled out a new update to its app with the launch of pre-cruise purchasing functionality and online check-in for its North American-based ships.  The app’s popular “Pizza Anywhere” on board function is now available on 11 ships with a fleetwide rollout expected to be completed later this year.

No itinerary changes expected due to Princess Cays fire

A Princess Cruises representative has informed Travel Agent that a recent fire on the cruise line's private island will not have any impact on scheduled visits.

The first Princess Cruises ship to visit Princess Cays is scheduled to take place on February 4.

Port of Halifax will continue to draw bigger ships in a longer cruise season

Halifax, Nova Scotia is experiencing significant growth in the cruise industry, with one of the longest cruise seasons ever for the city.

The Port of Halifax will kick off the 2019 cruise season on April 8 with the arrival of Marina, an Oceania Cruises vessel. The cruise season will run until the first week of November, making it one of the longest seasons for the Port of Halifax with the highest number of expected cruise guests.

Royal Caribbean to visit Ilocos for first time

Royal Caribbean International has scheduled one of its cruise ships to visit the international seaport of Currimao in Ilocos Norte this year. 

Ilocos is a region in the Philippines, encompassing the northwestern coast of Luzon island. It’s known for its historic sites, beaches and the well-preserved Spanish colonial city of Vigan. 

Dating from the 16th century, Vigan’s Mestizo district is characterized by cobblestone streets and mansions with wrought-iron balconies. Farther north, Laoag City is a jumping-off point for the huge La Paz Sand Dunes.

Princess Cruises completes multimillion dollar upgrades to Diamond Princess

Princess Cruises announced today that the Diamond Princess has completed a 14-day dry dock in Singapore.

The dry dock work completed on the Diamond Princess is part of the cruise line's "Come Back New Promise" commitment focused on investing more than $450 million across the global fleet.

Royal Caribbean cuts steel on second Quantum Ultra class ship

Royal Caribbean began construction its second Quantum Ultra class ship today, Odyssey of the Seas. The 27th ship in the global cruise line’s fleet is set to be named Odyssey of the Seas.

Set to debut in fall 2020, Odyssey of the Seas will sail from the United States. Additional details on Odyssey will be revealed later this year.

MSC Cruises introduces first virtual personal cruise assistant

MSC Cruises introduced ZOE to the public, which the cruise line touts as the world's first virtual personal cruise assistant powered by artificial intelligence.

MSC designed ZOE for its cruise guests in a partnership with HARMAN and Samsung Electronics.
