Royal Caribbean cancels three Oasis of the Seas sailings due to crane accident

Royal Caribbean cancelled the next three scheduled sailings of Oasis of the Seas due to the extra time needed to repair damage made to the ship by a crane that fell on it.

While docked in Freeport, Bahamas for scheduled work on Monday, a crane fell onto the ship. Because of that, sailings planned for April 7, April 14 and April 21 are canceled.

Cruise ship comes to assist crew members from Royal Caribbean ship hit by crane

The Bahamas Paradise cruise ship Grand Classica has gone to Freeport, Bahamas to help the crew members who were stranded at the shipyard to provide accommodations and assistance following an accident where a crane hit Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas.

According to WPBF, due to visa and passport issues, the crew members were transferred to its sister ship, the Grand Classica. 

Eight injured after crane falls on Royal Caribbean ship

Nearly a day after a large construction crane fell onto Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas, it appears eight people were injured as a result of the accident.

The Bahamas Tribune reports eight persons were taken to hospital. Five were injured, and three were brought in as “non-fatal drowning” patients.

Reports and video from the Bahamas indicate a large crane fell and hit Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas while the ship is undergoing minor repairs.

The incident happened today at shortly after noon. It is unknown at this time if there is any damage to Oasis of the Seas.

The Bahamas Press posted a video showing a crane leaning up against the side of the cruise ship.

Kelly Arison to be Godmother of Carnival Sunrise

Carnival Cruise Line announced that Kelly Arison, daughter of Carnival Corporation Chairman Micky Arison and his wife Madeleine, will serve as godmother for the ship at an invitation-only ceremony in New York on May 23.

Kelly will step into the godmother role previously held by her mother when the ship first entered service as Carnival Triumph, in 1999. In an added stroke of family ties, Kelly’s grandmother Lin Arison served as godmother to Carnival Sunrise’s sister ship, Carnival Sunshine, in 2013.
