Most people keep their cruise cards in a lanyard that conveniently hangs around their neck. Some, however, are getting creative and keeping their cruise cards tucked into their bras, drawing criticism from fellow passengers.
A Reddit post from a guest sailing aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship complaining about the "disgusting" new trend went viral.
"I’m currently on Independence of the Seas and twice I’ve seen ladies reaching into their blouses to locate their SeaPass which was stashed in their bras. This is frankly disgusting for the crew members and for everyone who has them touch their drinks glasses afterwards. Please just buy a lanyard," Efficient_Scar3959 wrote.
The post quickly gained traction, drawing over 300 comments from fellow cruisers, though many thought the original poster was overreacting.
"People do not wash their hands with soap and water after leaving the restrooms. People do not wash their hands so often that cruise ships have to almost beg them to before visiting the buffet. Boob sweat is the very least of your worries...," bmoregurl23 said.
WestCovina1234 added, "Twice you've seen this horror? Well, no wonder you had to come here and share it with us. I guarantee most boobs are much cleaner than most hands."

The future is wearable
Although cruise cards are common on most mainstream cruise lines, ranging from Royal Caribbean to Carnival, Norwegian, Margaritaville at Sea, Disney, and MSC, there are a few that have modern alternatives — and guests are taking notice.
"Love Virgin Voyages wrist bands. So easy to access [my] room, scan to embark/disembark, purchase drinks, shop onboard. And I never lose it as it stays on throughout [the] trip," Humble_Sport_9329 shared.

Disney and Royal Caribbean have an option that lets guests purchase a wearable cruise band as an alternative to the traditional cruise card. However, unlike Virgin and Princess, it comes at an extra cost.
Royal Caribbean's WOW Bands cost $14.99, though they're complimentary to guests staying in Star suites within the Royal Suite Class. They can be purchased once on board the ship.
Likewise, Disney Cruise Line's DisneyBand+ varies in pricing, depending on the design. Solid bands start at $34.99, while themed bands are $44.99, plus tax.
You should pre-order your wearable DisneyBand+ on the cruise line's website, as they state there's limited availability in the ships' shops.
Finally, MSC for Me wristbands are included for Yacht Club guests, but they must be purchased by passengers in other tiers, including Bella and Fantastica. You can get them on board for about $15 per band, but you will still need your cruise card to get on and off the ship.
"Honestly why is it still a ridiculous card? There are a million ways to carry an RFID chip. Thousands of resorts use wrist bands. Why do we need anything at all? Cruise lines already use facial recognition technology for boarding," Dismal_Information83 commented.
