Royal Caribbean indefinitely postpones upcoming ship upgrades

Royal Caribbean announced on Tuesday it has postponed all of its upcoming Royal Amplifications until further notice.

Plans for upgrades and enhancements on four ships are now in limbo, as the cruise line cited the impact of COVID-19 and the closure of shipyards as forcing their hand in making this delay.

Royal Caribbean announces proposed offerings of senior guaranteed notes and senior convertible notes

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd announced it will offer senior guaranteed notes to be issued by the Company due 2023 for an aggregate principal amount of up to $1.0 billion and a concurrent private offering of senior convertible notes to be issued by the Company due 2023.

Royal Caribbean cancels Alaska and Canada cruises through October 2020

Royal Caribbean announced it has cancelled all of its cruises to Alaska and Canada through October 31, 2020.

The decision was made after Canada announced cruise ships are banned from its waters through October 31, 2020.

Guests on cancelled sailings have the choice of getting a 125% Future Cruise Credit, 100% refund or the option to Lift and Shift their booking to a similar booking in 2021.

Royal Caribbean ship completes crew repatriation in Jamaica

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness confirmed Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas has completed a process of repatriating crew members on May 25.

The crew members disembarked at the Falmouth Pier in Trelawny. 

According to Holness, Royal Caribbean reported 1024 of the 1044 Jamaicans aboard who wished to return to Jamaica have now done so.

Royal Caribbean might not be removing the buffet after all once cruising resumes

Royal Caribbean executives have made different statements recently regarding the fate of its buffet on a Royal Caribbean ship once cruising resumes.

Earlier this week, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Chairman and CEO Richard Fain spoke to travel agents and spoke on many of the changes the cruise line is considering to protect guests once cruises resume.

Royal Caribbean cancels all cruises through July 31, 2020

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced it will extend its global cruise suspension through the end of July.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has decided to extend the suspension of most sailings through July 31, 2020, with the exception of sailings from China, which will be suspended through the end of June.

The cruise line has updated its date to resume service to be August 1, 2020.

Guests on cancelled sailings between June 12 - July 31, 2020 have the choice of a 100% refund, 125% future cruise credit, or to use Lift & Shift and move the sailing to next year.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. reported its first quarter 2020 results, as well as an update on what the company is doing to mitigate losses.

Royal Caribbean uses 28 cruise ships as collateral for $3.3-billion bond offering

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd issued a new $3.3-billion private offering of senior secured notes that aims to generate cash to repay other loans.

The notes are offered up by backing them up with 28 of the cruise line's ships and intellectual material as collateral.

Royal Caribbean indicated it will use the cash generated by these notes to repay its $2.35 billion 364-day senior secured term loan agreement with Morgan Stanley. Any leftover proceeds will be used to repay additional indebtedness.

Crew members on Royal Caribbean stage hunger strike in protest of not being able to return home

Fifteen Romanian crew members on Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas held a hunger strike to protest their inability to return home due to the global spread of coronavirus.

Miami Herald reports the hunger strike began on Thursday afternoon, but by Friday morning, the issue was resolved after the crew members spoke with the ship's Captain.

Royal Caribbean talks of possibly more cancellations, new ship delays and a look at booking numbers

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd posted an update today, where it provided a glimpse at the business impact of the current global health crisis.

All of its cruises are cancelled through at least June 11, 2020, and it said "continued disruptions to travel and port operations in various regions may result in further suspensions."

Interestingly, booking volumes are not as bad as some thought. Royal Caribbean started 2020 in a strong booked position and at higher prices on a prior year comparable basis.
