It's been at least half a year since most of us have seen the inside of a cruise ship, and many of us are itching to be back onboard. With the CDC's closure of public comment on the resumption of sailings and the Healthy Sail Panel's recommendations submitted, it's looking like that could happen before the end of 2020.

As an avid cruiser, you might be wondering whether the reward is worth the potential risk. Could there be a second wave of illness in the U.S., and could cruise ship travel contribute to it? None of us has a crystal ball, but here, we examine what we know so far.

When the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a no-sail order in March of 2020, nobody expected cruises would be suspended for more than a year. The biggest question on our vacation-starved minds right now is: when will sailings resume in the U.S.?

The short answer is that nobody knows for sure, but as the situation continues to unfold, this is what we know so far.

Norwegian Cruise Line announced on Thursday new sailings guests can book for 13 cruise ships during the Winter 2022-2023 cruise season.

Royal Caribbean shuffles its summer 2021 cruise ship schedule

Royal Caribbean has changed its plans for five cruise ships in summer 2021.

The changes for sailings in Europe and the Caribbean, where ships are changing homeports and in some cases, not conducting a transatlantic crossing.

Here is a summary of the changes:

Adventure of the Seas: Previously scheduled to be deployed from Copenhagen and Stockholm, the ship moves to Barcelona instead to sail a mixture of four-and-five-night Mediterranean cruises. Ports of call can include La Spezia and Rome, Italy; Ajaccio, Nice and Marseille, France; and Palma and Ibiza, Spain.

British Virgin Islands to reopen to tourists on December 1

The British Virgin Islands announced it plans to reopen its borders to visitors on December 1.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said that the Government is optimistic and is vigorously preparing for the re-opening of the Territory to welcome back tourists among others.

The Government of the Virgin Islands is using a phased approach to the Territory’s borders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Phase 1 of the Controlled Border reentry process commenced on June 2 for Virgin Islands, Belongers, Naturalised citizens and Permanent Residents.

Princess Cruises has sold two of its cruise ships

Princess Cruises confirmed it has sold two of its cruise ships to undisclosed buyers.

Celebrity Cruises Refund Policy: Can I Cancel My Celebrity Cruise?

Update, 4/11/2021: On October 31, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention allowed its no-sail order to expire and issued a conditional sailing framework, to which all ships must adhere in order to resume cruising. Since that time, Celebrity Cruises has pushed back its restart date through June 30, 2021.

The line has also canceled the full Europe seasons for Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Constellation through October 2021.
