Newlyweds sue Royal Caribbean for being on New Zealand volcano excursion during eruption

Newlyweds Matthew and Lauren Urey are suing Royal Caribbean for being caught during a volcanic eruption while on a cruise shore excursion.

Daily Mail reports the couple made a legal filing that the cruise line failed to alert passengers about the danger, despite the cruise like allegedly knowing about the issue.

Carnival will remove at least six ships from its fleet

During Carnival Corporation's second quarter earnings results, the cruise giant announced it plans to transfer at least six ships out of its fleets over the next 90 days, although did not specify which ships they would be.

Carnival announced a a net loss of $4.4 billion and revenues of just $0.7 billion during its second quarter. With those dire numbers, ditching vessels is one of the cost-cutting moves it intends to do.

Royal Caribbean extends its cruise cancellations through September 15

Royal Caribbean announced it would cancel most of its cruises through September 15, following other cruise lines announcements this week.

The Royal Caribbean Group announced most sailings are cancelled through September 15, with the exception of some ships in China and Bermuda.

Bermuda sailings will be suspended through October 31st, 2020, while Voyager of the Seas sailings are cancelled through September 30th, 2020, and Spectrum of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas sailings through July 2020.

MSC Cruises announces enhanced policy to guard against COVID-19

MSC Cruises announced on Monday a new, comprehensive and enhanced health & safety protocol for protecting guests and crew against COVID-19 onboard its ships.

The new policy is being developed in collaboration with relevant national health authorities and with the support of a team of external medical experts. This protocol will cover all aspects of the cruise, starting with the booking phase and all the way through to disembarkation and the return home.

Carnival Cruise Line cancels all North American cruises through September 30

Following up on last week's CLIA announcement, Carnival Cruise Line announced it will cancel all of its North American cruises through September 30, 2020.

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy indicated that Carnival would voluntarily extend its pause in North America by cancelling all cruises through September 30.

Royal Caribbean-owned Pullmantur Cruises files for reorganization

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd and Cruises Investment Holding announced on Monday that it has filed for the reorganization of Pullmantur Cruceros under Spanish insolvency laws.

RCCL owns 49% of Pullmantur, while Cruises Investment Holding owns 51 percent.

According to Pullmantur's Board of Directors, the impact of COVID-19 wreaked havoc on the cruise line's financial situation.

Cruise industry group announces all U.S. sailings cancelled through September 15

COVID-19 has forced the cruise lines to cancel even more sailings, as the Cruise Lines International Association announced today U.S. based sailings are cancelled through September 15.

CLIA represents the major cruise lines, and made the announcement of the new round of cancellations.  Thus far, only Norwegian Cruise Line has made a similar announcement to support the new dates.

Port Canaveral shared a look at the nearly complete new cruise terminal for Carnival Cruise Line.

Terminal CT3 was toured by Carnival Cruise Line representatives, which will be the home of the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship.

Recently declared "substantially complete", the new terminal will be the biggest construction project in the history of Port Canaveral, and cost $163 million.

Norwegian cancels August and September cruises due to Coronavirus

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings announced today it has cancelled all of its sailings through August 30th, 2020 and select cruises in September and October.

The announcement effects Norwegian, Oceania and Regent cruise lines.

Puerto Rico to reopen on July 15

Last week, Puerto Rico's Governor announced the island will reopen and remove nearly all the restrictions it had in place, which includes the reopening of beaches and international travel prohibitions.

Gov. Wanda Vázquez said Puerto Rico will welcome tourists back beginning on July 15.
