Cruise lines are constantly evolving to offer the absolute best onboard experiences possible. While some onboard offerings are smash-hits, others don’t always stand the test of time. 

When traveling with kids, many families find that cruises are one of the best options. 

With limited stress and plenty of amenities and activities focused on everyone in the family, cruises can be a great way to relax, do things that interest you, and come together as a family in the evening for dinner and a show.

Many people seem to either be cruise lovers or loyal to all-inclusive resorts. Both vacation options offer convenient and relaxing getaways, although the two are very different.

As a self-proclaimed cruise lover, I had the opportunity recently to experience my first all-inclusive resort. My husband and I headed down to the Barcelo Maya Palace in Riviera Maya to attend a wedding. I was excited to see what the all-inclusive experience would be like; we both agreed to keep an open mind, but it was hard not to draw comparisons.

Today's cruise ships keep getting bigger and bigger. 

As of December 2024, the biggest cruise ship in the world is Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, followed by Utopia of the Seas. 

Both of these ships are massive compared to one of the most infamous ships of all time: RMS Titanic. Back in 1912, she was the world’s largest cruise ship. Built by the White Star Line, Titanic departed Southampton for its inaugural (and final) voyage in April 1912.

When I was just 4 years old, I boarded my very first cruise ship. My family and I sailed onboard The Big Red Boat, which was essentially a knock-off Disney cruise to the Bahamas.

To this day, our cruise on The Big Red Boat is one of my first memories as a child. I can remember being terrified of Tweety Bird and the characters around the ship. I remember a rough sea day where the pools had big netting on top and we couldn't go swimming.

Cruising is a popular vacation for many different travelers. Nothing beats the endless food, gorgeous destinations, stunning entertainment, and overall convenience of cruising. Families, couples, and older travelers can all enjoy cruising for different reasons.

You don’t need to sail on a small, stuffy luxury cruise ship to indulge in an over-the-top cruise ship suite. If you’re looking for two-story staterooms, ginormous balconies, and VIP privileges, you can certainly find them on mega-ships that also boast Broadway musicals, waterslides, ropes courses, surf simulators, the first-ever roller coaster at sea, and expansive kids clubs.
