Carnival Cruises will sell two more cruise ships

Carnival Corp. & plc announced on Wednesday in a Form 8-K financial filing it will get rid of two more cruise ships, in addition to the 13 ships it previously announced it would sell.

The decision to sell the ships are intended to align the fleet with the expected phased restart of guest cruise operations while also generating cost savings.

Carnival Cruise Line provided a fleet plan on Thursday that provides details on the status of its cruise ships during the current global cruise shutdown.

Carnival began the update with some good news, informing the public it will take delivery of a new unnamed Excel-class ship in November 2022.

Carnival Cruise Line announced late Monday night new cancellations that affect select cruise ships, including the upcoming Mardi Gras ship.

The brand new Mardi Gras will see her debut delayed by a few months, as her sailings between November 14, 2020 - January 30, 2021 are cancelled.

Wall Street analyst thinks cruise recovery is many years away

Wall Street analyst Chris Woronka of Deutsche Bank wrote a note that predicts in the long run cruise lines will recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will take many years to accomplish.

While he does not see the cruise line stocks of Carnival, Norwegian or Royal Caribbean being low enough to buy right now, in the long term Woronka sees these stocks recovering after getting torpedoed by the COVID-19 panic.

Carnival will remove at least six ships from its fleet

During Carnival Corporation's second quarter earnings results, the cruise giant announced it plans to transfer at least six ships out of its fleets over the next 90 days, although did not specify which ships they would be.

Carnival announced a a net loss of $4.4 billion and revenues of just $0.7 billion during its second quarter. With those dire numbers, ditching vessels is one of the cost-cutting moves it intends to do.
