MSC Cruises announces Blue Ribbon group to develop plan for cruises to resume

MSC Cruises announced it has formed its own group of experts to come up with a health policy for its ships to return to service.

MSC calls it a blue ribbon group that is comprised of experts in the fields of medicine, public health and sanitation, hotel services, HVAC, and more. The goal of the group is to create enhanced protocol and procedures for MSC ships to utilize going forward.

Carnival cancels all Mardi Gras sailings through January 2021

Carnival Cruise Line announced late Monday night new cancellations that affect select cruise ships, including the upcoming Mardi Gras ship.

The brand new Mardi Gras will see her debut delayed by a few months, as her sailings between November 14, 2020 - January 30, 2021 are cancelled.  

Mardi Gras is not only Carnival's next new cruise ship, she will be the first LNG-powered ship to operate in the Western Hemisphere and featuring the first roller coaster at sea.

NCL and Royal Caribbean team up for joint health panel task force

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings announced on Monday a collaboration to create a panel to create COVID-19 protocols.

The "Healthy Sail Panel" has a mission of developing recommendations for cruise lines to advance their public health response to COVID-19, improve safety and prepare to safely resume operations.

The co-chairs of the panel are Gov. Mike Leavitt and Dr. Scott Gottlieb. 

Royal Caribbean pushes back Odyssey of the Seas debut until April 2021

Royal Caribbean's next new cruise ship will not begin sailing until April 2021.

On Tuesday, the cruise line confirmed Odyssey of the Seas would have all of its sailings cancelled between November 2020 - April 2021.

In a statement to travel agents, Royal Caribbean said the decision to delay Odyssey's arrival was due to issues at the Meyer Werft shipyard, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, all sailings between November 5, 2020 - April 17, 2021 are now cancelled.

Norwegian cancels 2020 Alaska cruise season

Norwegian Cruise Line announced on Tuesday it was cancelling all of its 2020 Alaska cruises.

In an email to travel agents, Norwegian cited both the impact of COVID-19, as well as port restrictions as why it was forced to cancel all of its Alaska cruises.

While we remained hopeful that we would resume our Seattle-based Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy Alaska sailings in September 2020, today's suspension includes the following cruises.

Carnival to sell Costa Victoria for scrap

Carniva's Costa Victoria will be sold to be scrapped, as a result of the cruise giant's financial problems due to COVID-19.

Francesco Ferrari, the mayor of the Italian town of Piombino, posted on Facebook that the Carnival-owned cruise ship had arrived in Piombino to be prepared for demolition.

First cruise line will resume big ship cruises in July from Taiwan

Genting Cruise Lines announced its Dream Cruises brand will be the first cruise line to resume cruises after the global pandemic with sailings from Taiwan in July 2020.

Dream Cruises will operate the Explorer Dream and offer 2- and 3-night "Taiwan Island-Hopping" cruises beginning on July 26, 2020, departing from Keelung and calling at Penghu, Matzu and Kinmen islands.
