Having sailed on Disney Cruise Line as a child, I couldn't resist booking a 3-night cruise aboard Disney Magic to the line's brand-new private destination in the Bahamas.   

Launched in July 1998, Disney Magic is Disney's first cruise ship. Her sister ship, Disney Wonder, joined her one year later. Following Wonder, Disney didn't expand its fleet for over a decade until the debut of Disney Dream in 2011. 

In many ways, sailing with Disney Cruise Line is unlike any other line. 

Despite being part of one of the most well-known companies in the world, Disney only operates a fleet of eight ships — soon to be nine with the debut of Disney Believe. Though one of the smallest mainstream lines in operation, it is known for its family-friendly activities and immersive Disney experiences. 

Disney Cruise Line canceled an upcoming 3-night cruise onboard Disney Wish because of the expected impacts of explosive Hurricane Milton. 

Passengers booked on the October 11, 2024, sailing were informed that their cruise would not proceed as scheduled. 

"We have been closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and its projected path, which is expected to move through Central Florida later this week," the email to confirmed guests reads.

Disney Cruise Line’s newest destination - Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in the Bahamas – has been somewhat controversial for a tropical escape, but this fresh paradise promises a blend of spectacular scenery and family-friendly fun that’s hard to beat. 

Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, Disney's second private destination, has officially welcomed guests for the first time. Disney Magic, Disney Cruise Line's first ship, called on the exclusive destination on June 7. 

Disney cruises are expensive compared to family-friendly lines like Norwegian, Carnival, MSC, and Royal Caribbean. However, you get a lot for your money, including high-end entertainment, character meet-and-greet opportunities, thoughtfully designed cabins for family, and a friendly, helpful crew.

Even so, you'll need to find ways to cut costs to get the most out of your Disney cruise vacation budget. Sometimes, the base fare alone for a family of four can top $5,000 or $6,000, especially if you're trying to cruise during the peak season in a balcony. 

From character meet and greets to immersive dining experiences, Broadway-style musicals, and exclusive deck parties, every Disney fan knows that there's no other cruise line that can compete with the magic created onboard a Disney cruise.

This past year, I had a travel dream come true when I embarked on Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy. 

I had dreamed about sailing on this ship as a child, and now I can look back and cherish the memories that I made while onboard! Since this was my first time sailing with Disney Cruise Line as an adult, I did a lot of research ahead of our cruise to learn everything I needed to know to make our cruise truly magical. 

In 2022, Disney Cruise Line introduced their first new cruise ship since the Disney Fantasy in 2012. This eagerly anticipated cruise ship is the first in the new Wish Class and is currently the largest in the five-ship fleet.
