Cruise industry announces positive momentum for cruise ships and new environmental goals

Cruise Lines International Association shared new findings that point to evidence of the cruise industry’s resilience, while attending Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, Florida.

In Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) latest press release, they stated that “our science backed protocols facilitated the resumption of cruise operations, with over 7.5 million passengers having sailed in nearly 90 markets, all while committing to pursuing ever more ambitious carbon reduction goals.”

Virgin Voyages newest ship revealed to be Brilliant Lady

The cruise line Virgin Voyages has revealed the name of its newest vessel to be Brilliant Lady.

Brilliant Lady is currently being constructed in Italy by the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The fourth ship in Virgin Voyages’ fleet is scheduled to make its debut in 2023.

Norwegian Cruise Line commits to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050

Today April 21, 2022 Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. announced its commitment to pursue net zero greenhouse emissions by 2050 across all of its operations.

In a statement, the president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., Frank Del Rio, said, “the pursuit of net zero will be one of the most defining voyages that our Company will take. The scope of our net zero ambition spans our entire value chain as we aim to bring key partners, including our vast network of global suppliers, along with us on this transformational journey.”

Wearing a face mask in cruise terminals may not be required soon

On Monday April 18, a federal judge in Florida overturned the federal mask mandate that would  require travelers to continue wearing face coverings while in and onboard places of public transportation until May. Prior to this, the CDC had extended its face covering mandate for another 15 days nationwide.

Celebrity Cruises announces new Mexican Rivera and Caribbean itineraries

Today Celebrity Cruises has announced new sailing itineraries for two of its ships, Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Millennium.

Celebrity Solstice will be embarking on five, seven, and eight-night sailings to the Mexican Riviera, leaving from its homeport of Los Angeles, California.

The itineraries will include destination visits such as Puerto Vallarta, Ensenada, and Mazatlán. Some of the sailings will also feature overnight stays in Cabo San Lucas, in order for guests to experience the lively nightlife.

Cruising returns to Australia for the first time since pandemic

This morning, April 18th 2022, was the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic that a cruise line has returned to Australian waters and ports.

Australia is one of the most recent countries to restart its cruise industry after closing down during the pandemic. Prime Minister Scott Morrison closed all ports within Australia to passenger cruise ships on March 15th 2020.
