From exciting roller coasters to thought-evoking trivia events and robot bartenders capable of crafting unique libations created by you, cruise ships are filled with activities to keep passengers busy.
You won't have to worry about being bored, that's for sure! If you're debating whether or not you'd have fun on a cruise, here's a list of 101 of the best things to do!
Offerings vary by ship and cruise line, so you'll want to research which ship is best for you before booking.
1. Attend the sailaway party
The sailaway party is the event that officially kicks off your cruise vacation. On mainstream lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean, you can expect guests to bust out their best moves. Though it's a more relaxed affair on upscale cruise lines, it's still fun to watch your embarkation city disappear into the distance. After you depart, you won't see land again until your first port of call!

2. Visit the pool bar
Before your ship pushes back, make sure you visit the pool bar for a beverage to celebrate the fun that lies ahead. Whether you prefer a classic piña colada, beer, or signature cocktail, the pool bar offers a range of options. You will be positioned to start your vacation on a high note with a refreshing drink in hand!
3. Try a new cocktail
While at the bar, don't be afraid to try something new, especially if you have a drink package! When sailing on Allure of the Seas in 2022, I discovered the Strawberry Blonde and fell in love with the fruity drink. It remains one of my favorites to this day! Many cruise lines have beverages unique to their brand, so it's worth branching out of your comfort zone.
4. Gamble at the casino
Casinos are, in a sense, adult arcades. While the stakes are higher than when playing a game of air hockey, you can win big! Gamblers can try their luck at roulette, play blackjack, or spin one of the themed slot machines. However, it's important to gamble responsibly and set limits.
5. Rush down a water slide
From thrilling trapdoor water slides to splash pads designed for younger children, there are plenty of ways to stay cool on the pool deck. Icon of the Seas recently broke the record for the largest water park at sea. However, that doesn't mean you won't find exciting water slides on other ships.

6. Participate in a game show
My fiancée and I are fans of the nightly game shows on Celebrity Cruises. The audience-based games aren't exclusive to Celebrity, though! Select Carnival ships have Family Feud Live; however, Deal or No Deal can be found fleetwide. Some are included in the cost of your cruise fare, while others require participants to purchase game cards to play.
7. Work off some calories in the fitness center
You'll likely eat (and drink) more than at home during your cruise. That's okay, though—you're on vacation! While you shouldn't feel guilty for indulging more than usual, some travelers prefer to maintain their workout routine, so they don't abandon their fitness goals. Thankfully, the ship's fitness center is complimentary. You can also opt to participate in fitness classes, though they usually cost extra.

8. Race your friends on the go-kart track
Select Norwegian ships have go-kart tracks on the top deck. For $15, you can zoom around the race track going around 20mph. This activity is available to passengers at least 55 inches tall and under 265 lbs. It's best to make reservations as soon as you board, as it's a popular attraction onboard NCL Joy, Encore, Prima, Viva, and Bliss.
9. Dine at one of the specialty restaurants
Specialty restaurants are a great way to enhance your cruise by making your dining experience more memorable. From teppanyaki restaurants to upscale steakhouses, cruise specialty restaurants offer passengers a more intimate dining setting. Not only that, but they tend to use higher-quality ingredients.
10. Order room service
Speaking of dining, one of my favorite ways to begin a busy port day is with room service for breakfast! Rather than feel rushed to get ready and head to the buffet for a quick breakfast, my food is delivered to my cabin, so I can eat while finishing my makeup or hair. It's even nicer when I have a balcony and can watch the ship pull into port!
11. Play mini-golf
Mini-golf is an activity the whole family can enjoy. What better way to pass time on a sea day than some friendly competition? From themed courses to epic sea views, playing mini-golf on a cruise is unlike your local course!
12. Purchase a souvenir (or two)
Whether you want a ship-themed souvenir or handmade item from one of your ports of call, there are plenty of opportunities to go shopping while on a cruise! On my recent cruise to Greece, Italy, and Turkey, I returned home with Greek liquor, Italian seasoning for pasta, a shot glass from Mykonos, and a few plush toys for my dog!

13. Let your kids run loose at the youth club
Cruises make for great family vacations because ships have activities that cater to all ages and interests. While parents enjoy much-needed alone time by the pool, children will have even more fun in the complimentary youth clubs. Age-appropriate activities may include arts & crafts, video games, sports tournaments, PJ parties, science experiments, and more.
14. Go ice skating
Those sailing on Royal Caribbean's Freedom, Oasis, and Icon Class can ice skate at sea! If you aren't the most graceful, you can watch one of the mesmerizing ice shows. Ice skating is included in your cruise fare; however, you must sign a waiver and wear specific clothing, including long pants and socks.
15. Attend a wine tasting
Wine tastings are often an extra charge, even if you have a drink package. However, they're great for cruisers who want to learn more about wine varieties, regions, and pairings. On my upcoming cruise onboard Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas, the "Women of Wine Tasting Experience," costs $42 per person and includes a curated tasting experience with 7 varieties of wine.
16. Relax at the cruise line's private destination
Each mainstream cruise line has its own private destination in The Bahamas. Royal Caribbean, for example, owns Perfect Day at CocoCay, while Norwegian's private island, Great Stirrup Cay, is about half a mile away. Carnival's newest destination, Celebration Key, is set to open in July 2025. From relaxed beach days to fun excursions like horseback riding and zip lining, you can customize your day ashore to meet your needs and preferences.
17. Go zip-lining
Speaking of zip lines, did you know that select cruise ships have one onboard? Oasis of the Seas, the namesake ship of Royal Caribbean's Oasis Class, was the first to feature a zip line. Now, they're a staple on all Oasis Class ships. Plus, MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview have dual zip lines onboard perfect for racing with friends and family.
18. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea
On Princess Cruises, you can have a refined afternoon tea on sea days! Think small sandwiches, scones, and, of course, sweet treats! There's an included experience; however, if you want champagne or the proper tiered display, you'll have to pay an extra charge. It's just $10 per person, or $20 if you'd like alcohol. Carnival Cruise Line also has an afternoon tea. The availability is spotty, so check your HUB app when you board to confirm when it's offered on your sailing.
19. Get married at sea
With destination weddings becoming more popular, cruise ship weddings are a great option for couples who want to combine their ceremony with a unique travel experience. As soon as you know that you're ready to tie the knot at sea, reach out to your cruise line's wedding advisor, so they can help get the planning process in motion.
20. Book a spa treatment
While it's true cruise ship spas aren't the most affordable, sometimes a treatment (or two) is worth the splurge! Perhaps you're coming from a stressful month at work or want to make your "me" time a little more special. If you want to be pampered and save money, see if the spa has any port day specials!
21. Try a sushi-making class
Want to increase your culinary skills while on vacation? Look into whether your ship offers sushi-making classes. Though typically an extra charge, you will learn the importance of the ingredients, techniques, and presentation that go into the perfect sushi experience.
22. Try your luck at an escape room
Escape rooms are great for those who want to put their brain to the test and solve challenging puzzles with other cruisers. Like go-kart tracks and roller coasters, though, they're usually not included in your cruise fare. Plus, it's important to make reservations ahead of time, as space is limited.
23. Visit Maya ruins in Mexico
Cruising to the Western Caribbean? You'll likely have at least one day in Mexico. If you're in Cozumel, visit the San Gervasio Mayan Archaeological Site, which highlights the Maya beliefs in love and fertility. In Costa Maya? Look no further than Tulum. Since Chichén Itzá is located so far inland, it's easiest to visit if docked in Progreso.

24. Laugh out loud at a comedy show
Carnival's Punchliner Comedy Club is perhaps the best comedy club at sea! Still, attending a comedy show on other lines can be a fun experience! The best part? They're included in your cruise fare! Some shows are 18+, but most lines make an effort to have family-friendly shows, too. I recommend arriving early, especially if you want to be in one of the first few rows.
25. Relax in a private cabana on the pool deck
Reserving a private cabana means you won't have to wake up early to beat the chair hogs. Instead, you can head to the pool deck once you're well-fed and ready to begin your day outdoors. Typically, cabanas have private attendants who will take care of fetching cocktails. Some may even include food service!
26. Watch a movie under the stars
Anybody can book tickets to watch a movie in a dark theater, but have you ever had the chance to watch a film under the stars while in a pool or hot tub? While sailing on Carnival Conquest, my friend and I had the opportunity to grab a drink, settle into one of the hot tubs, and watch some of Barbie (2023), making for a memorable night at sea!
27. Book a behind-the-scenes tour
If you want to get a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes operations of a cruise ship, you will have to book an all-access tour, allowing you to explore areas usually off-limits to passengers, such as the Bridge, galley, and laundry room.
28. Sing your heart out at karaoke
Karaoke is one of the most popular cruise activities. If you've got a knack for singing (or simply want to have a good time with friends and family), participating in karaoke can be the highlight of your cruise. Whether you're performing a popular tune or cheering on fellow passengers, the lively atmosphere is certain to draw a crowd!
29. Ride a helicopter to the top of a glacier in Alaska
Helicopter tours in Alaska make for a truly unforgettable excursion. Though they aren't the cheapest excursion, the views are worth every penny, as you will witness the vast scale of the Last Frontier's natural beauty. Plus, many land on top of glaciers, giving you a unique opportunity to step onto the ice!
30. Dance the night away at the onboard club
Entertainment on a cruise ship doesn't end when the sun comes down. In fact, it's actually when the ship comes alive! After you've had dinner, caught a theater production, and listened to live music in the atrium, don't be afraid to put on your dancing shoes and head to the nightclub!
31. Attend a guest speaker lecture
On my recent cruise to Alaska on Quantum of the Seas, a guest speaker spoke about their time in the Canadian Armed Forces. Whether the topic is cultural or historical, attending a lecture can enrich your cruise experience by adding an educational element.
32. Settle in with a good book
Sea days are a great time to catch up on your reading. While there will be plenty of activities going on around the ship, there's nothing wrong with finding a comfortable seat and getting lost in your latest read.
33. Sample the local cuisine in port
One of the best ways to experience and appreciate new cultures is through their cuisine. Sampling local dishes allows you to taste the flavors and ingredients of a specific region, as well as provide a window to learn about the traditions and history of its inhabitants.
34. Ride a roller coaster
Carnival's Excel Class ships are the only cruise ships in the world to feature a roller coaster onboard. For $15 per person, you can soar around the Ultimate Playground reaching speeds of nearly 40mph. I had the opportunity to test out this unique activity on Carnival Celebration and loved it so much that I wouldn't hesitate to ride it again!
35. Go skydiving
Okay, not literally. However, Royal Caribbean's Quantum Class ships have indoor skydiving simulators. RipCord by iFLY is ideal for guests seeking an adrenaline rush. On port days, guests can take advantage of a complimentary one-minute flight; however, a two-minute session starts at $100 per person.
36. Bump into other cruisers during a friendly session of bumper cars
Speaking of Quantum Class ships, you're also able to experience bumper cars onboard at the indoor SeaPlex! Whether you're a kid or just a kid at heart, bumper cars are a thrilling activity everyone can enjoy! Plus, it's available for no extra cost.
37. Catch an original production show
Production shows are one of my favorite things about cruises! Though they're not the same quality as Broadway or East End shows, they are still entertaining. From dazzling musicals with high-energy dance numbers to jaw-dropped acrobatics and talented singers, production shows are a must-see on your cruise!

38. Sing along at the Piano Bar
Piano Bars are welcoming and inviting. Audience members request songs and are encouraged to sing along to their favorite tunes. It doesn't matter if you're a casual listener or a passionate performer, everyone's invited to participate in the sing-a-long. It's a popular activity, so you'll want to arrive early to claim a seat!
39. Book another cruise
The last night of your cruise can be upsetting. To avoid the post-cruise blues, book another sailing while onboard! That way, you'll have another voyage to look forward to before stepping onto the gangway and heading home.

40. Attend an art auction for free champagne
If you want to take home a new piece of art (or simply give yourself something to do on a nasty sea day), attend the art auction! Even if you don't walk away with a new piece for your living room, you'll get a complimentary glass of champagne.
41. Escape rowdy children and relax in the adults-only area
As a 20-something without children, family-friendly cruise lines are less appealing to me. Instead, I've become a fan of Celebrity Cruises. Though there are still children, the experience is tailored towards adults. However, regardless of whether I'm on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, or Carnival, the adult-only sun decks are one of my favorite places onboard. They're serene and offer a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle around the ship.
42. Work remotely
While cruises are typically synonymous with vacation, limited PTO doesn't always allow us to take extended time off. If you find an enticing Transatlantic cruise, you may initially be put off because of the length of the sailing. Instead of assuming you need to take every day off, consider working remotely on sea days! That way, you can take advantage of the ship's entertainment at night and explore unique ports of call without having to take unpaid days off of work.
43. Sleep in
It's tempting to want to wake up early and stay up late on a cruise. From morning trivia to late-night dance parties, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained from sun up to sun down. Instead of trying to do everything and risk getting burnt out, don't be afraid to sleep in and catch up on your rest. You are on vacation, after all!
43. Try to win a prize from the ship's arcade
Cruise ship arcades often feature a variety of games, from air hockey to racing simulators and claw machines. Unless you're sailing on Virgin Voyages, the arcade will cost you extra.
44. Learn how to surf
FlowRider surf simulators are exclusive to Royal Caribbean ships. Found on Voyager, Freedom, Oasis, Quantum, and Icon Class vessels, cruisers have the opportunity to learn how to surf (or boogie board) on the open seas! Guests onboard cruise ships headed to Grand Turk can take advantage of the FlowRider ashore in the Cruise Center near Margaritaville.
45. Test your skills on a ropes course
Select Carnival and Norwegian ships have ropes courses for the bravest of passengers. Some even allow you to walk a plank and step out over the edge of the ship for an exhilarating view!
46. SkyRide
Carnival's SkyRide is exclusively found on Carnival Vista, Horizon, and Panorama. This complimentary activity mimics riding a bike; however, you're suspended in the air and "riding" around the top deck of the ship! I rode it while docked in Grand Turk and got some amazing views of the island and the surrounding ocean.
47. Listen to live music
From musicians to vocalists performing covers of today's hits, cruise ships offer loads of entertainment options that cater to all musical tastes. During the day, there might be a band playing tropical tunes by the pool, whereas in the evening, you may find a solo artist singing soothing melodies in one of the lounges.
48. Learn how to play pickleball
Pickleball has gained momentum in recent years, and cruise ships are jumping on the trend! From introductory sessions to complimentary tournaments, you can play pickleball whether you're a seasoned player or a beginner.

49. Jump around at an indoor trampoline park
Carnival Panorama is the only cruise ship in the world with an indoor trampoline park onboard! For an additional cost, guests can head to Sky Zone® at sea for some bouncy fun during a dodgeball session or blacklight glow party. Carnival states there are even opportunities for younger cruises to participate in specially designed activities.
50. Escape the crowds at the suite-only sun deck
Guests staying in exclusive suites may have access to suite-only amenities like private sun decks, restaurants, and more, offering passengers a higher level of comfort and privacy. While the perks will vary based on the ship, some of the newest in the industry offer suite guests exclusive pools, hot tubs, and bars, so they don't have to face the crowds at the lido deck.

51. Enjoy signature craft brews
Carnival introduced its first brewery at sea in 2016. Since then, they've served over 300,000 pints of its craft beers to guests. In 2019, the cruise line partnered with Lakeland, Florida-based Brew Hub to become the first line to can and keg its own private-label beers aboard Carnival Horizon and Vista. Now, you can even enjoy an exclusive Parched Pig® beer at Guy's Pig and Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse!
52. Attend a lively parade
Parades with festive costumes can help create lasting memories on your cruise vacation! Check your ship's schedule to see when/if there are any on your itinerary.
53. Try to win a free cruise at bingo
Bingo is a form of gambling, meaning you aren't guaranteed to walk away with a prize. However, if you enjoy the thrill, it can be a fun and engaging activity on a cruise ship! My advice is to buy your bingo cards early, so you can claim a comfortable seat, rather than stand in line for upwards of 30 minutes.
54. Dress up for professional pictures
Professional pictures are a great way to bring home a permanent memory of your vacation! They're also a great opportunity to round your family up and snap your holiday photo, so you don't have to worry about it later! Note that on formal night, the lines can get pretty long. It's important to budget enough time to wait in line to avoid rushing to dinner.

55. Play a game of hoops with fellow cruisers
The sports court is a popular feature on cruise ships. Even during dinner hours, you'll find teenage boys playing basketball or shooting soccer balls around. In addition to standard pickup games, the ship's activities crew will facilitate tournaments. Oftentimes, they're age-specific, so you can join a family-friendly game or wait until there's an adults-only event.
56. Soar down a dry slide
Utopia of the Seas is home to the world's longest dry slide at sea, measuring 259 feet long. However, MSC World Europa's 250-foot Venom Drop is a close second. Dry slides can be found on Norweigian Prima and Viva, as well as all Oasis Class ships excluding Allure of the Seas. Allure will receive one during an extensive dry dock in early 2025, though.
57. Test your strength with the onboard rock climbing wall
Rock climbing on a cruise ship combines adventure with stunning ocean views. All walls are designed with safety in mind, and there are typically a few different courses to accommodate cruisers of varying skill levels.
58. Play a game of laser tag
Laser tag is an immersive, high-energy game sure to get your heart pumping. It encourages teamwork, strategy, and friendly competition. Be sure to dodge the other team's lasers, as you want your team to win!
59. Take in a sunset at sea
There's something truly magical about sunsets at sea. In fact, it's one of my favorite times to grab a cocktail and stroll the outdoor decks. Sometimes, sunset may overlap with assigned dining times; however, it's worth taking the time to savor the view. Sunsets at home won't be anywhere near as beautiful.
60. Strike up a conversation with strangers
Throughout my cruising career, I've taken a few solo voyages. Each time, I've been fortunate to meet new friends from all walks of life. To do so, however, it's important to step out of your comfort zone. If you're reserved, it will be harder to connect with other cruisers. I find it helpful to attend one of the dedicated solo meet-ups and talk to passengers at nearby tables at dinner.
61. See who is the reigning bowling champ
Though bowing alleys aren't super common on cruise ships, you will find small lanes on Norwegian Pearl, Epic, and a few MSC ships, including Seaside and Meraviglia. Passengers must pay a nominal fee to play.
62. Go for an early morning dip in the pool
Circling the lido deck like a hawk isn't most cruisers' ideal sea day. Instead of fighting the crowds for a lounge chair or spot in the pool, make a point to take a dip early in the morning. While there's never a bad time to cool down in the pool, morning swims offer a quieter experience before the lido deck fills up with sunbathers.
63. Dress up for one of the theme parties
Cruises have theme nights and encourage passengers to dress accordingly and partake in tailored events, most notably theme parties. Whether it's 80s Night, White Out Night, or Country Night, bring your festive attire and come ready to party!

64. Gather a group to play cards or board games
It's not uncommon to see groups gathered indoors playing card games, especially on cold-weather itineraries. Some ships have a game room where passengers can meet, mingle, and enjoy a variety of games. If there's something specific you'd like to play while onboard, it's best to bring it along!
65. Learn how to make your favorite cocktails during a mixology class
For an extra charge, you can learn how to make your favorite cocktails, so you can turn into your family's personal barista during holiday gatherings! Even if you don't want to impress your loved ones, it's nice to know how to make the delicious cocktails you look forward to drinking on a cruise.

66. Take a glass-blowing class
If you're sailing on Celebrity Equinox, Eclipse, or Solstice, you can take a glass-blowing class and work with a skilled instructor to create a unique piece of art!
67. Grab a pair of headphones and show off your best moves during the silent disco party
At a silent disco, attendees are given wireless headphones that allow them to choose from multiple channels, each focusing on a different genre. Participants can tell what music other dancers are grooving to, as the headphones are equipped with colored lights that correspond to the channels.
68. Visit the sports bar to stay up-to-date on the latest game
You don't have to miss your favorite sports events while cruising. The ship's sports bar is often equipped with multiple television screens that broadcast live sports. Order a beer and you're ready to watch the big game with other sports fans!
69. Splurge on dinner at the Chef's Table
Chef's Table is a unique specialty dining experience. Limited to just a handful of guests, you'll be wined and dined like never before. Each course is crafted to showcase the chef's best culinary techniques and is paired with wines and cocktails.
70. Go whale watching
While in Alaska, you cannot miss out on the opportunity to spot whales in their natural habitat. Boat tours are more than just keeping your eyes peeling on the water, though! As you sail through the various sounds and passages, you should take in the stunning Alaskan scenery.
71. Visit the spa for a quick mani-pedi
While massages and facials can be expensive, manicures and pedicures are more affordable treatments on cruise ships. Sometimes, our pre-vacation checklist gets too long and time-consuming, and we don't have time to cross everything off. Knowing there's a salon onboard that can fix up chipped nails is a huge relief!
72. Decorate cupcakes
Decorating cupcakes is a fun hands-on activity that allows you to put your creativity skills to the test. I remember "creating" cheeseburgers out of cupcakes on a family cruise with my sister! It was a fun activity that I look back on fondly. Unfortunately, designing your own sweet treat often comes with an extra cost.
73. Video chat with loved ones at home
Disconnecting on vacation is okay, but it's not always possible to go 7 nights without checking in on things at home. Maybe you're worried about your fur babies, want to say goodnight to your children, or need to send a quick email for work. Whatever the reason, it's okay to carve out a few minutes to connect to the ship's (paid) Wi-Fi and stay in touch. A short video call never hurt anyone!
74. Explore the wonders of the Mediterranean
From the ancient ruins of Rome to the stunning architecture in Barcelona and the beautiful beaches of Southern France, it's easy to immerse yourself in the rich history and landscapes that make the Mediterranean a popular tourist destination.
75. Ride in an enclosed capsule 300 feet in the air
Found on Royal Caribbean's Quantum Class, the North Star is a glass-enclosed observation capsule that elevates you high above the top deck. Whether sailing to Alaska, the Caribbean, Asia, South Pacific, or beyond, the North Star will give you a 360-degree view of the ocean, ship, and ports of call.
76. Facilitate a bar crawl
Cruise ships have numerous bars and lounges onboard. Though nothing is wrong with returning to your favorite spot, organizing a bar crawl is a great way to sample the various offerings onboard and get to know fellow passengers! As you make your way through the different spots, you'll experience the unique atmosphere of each and potentially discover signature drinks.
77. Participate in the bellyflop competition
Even if you aren't in for a world of hurt, watching the bellyflop competition is a popular cruise tradition. If you end up winning, you'll take home a life-changing prize. Just kidding, but you will receive a small memento to celebrate your accomplishment.

78. Restock your liquor cabinet by taking advantage of the ship's duty-free stores
All stores onboard are duty-free, meaning you won't have to pay taxes on your purchases. If your liquor cabinet at home is looking a little dry, consider stocking up while on the cruise. Sometimes, they have sales that make buying 2 or 3 bottles worthwhile.
79. Play ping-pong
The casual and informal sense of competition ping-pong evokes, coupled with the unique views of the seas, make the game a fun way to pass the time on a cruise ship. You don't have to be a professional to challenge your friends and family.
80. Meet the ship's captain
Interested in meeting the crew member responsible for the safe operation of your cruise ship? Check your ship's daily schedule to see if there are any captain meet-and-greets. Sometimes, they'll also host larger Q&A sessions.

81. Go for a walk on the outdoor jogging track
Sometimes, feeling cooped up in a gym isn't how cruisers want to spend their time onboard. There's plenty of time to use an elliptical or lift weights at home. Thankfully, you can take advantage of being on a cruise and keeping your fitness goals in check by utilizing the ship's jogging track. Whether you want to begin your day with a leisurely walk or run a mile or two, the track offers an outdoor alternative to the standard fitness center.
82. Cool off with a complimentary soft serve
Once when at my hair salon, my stylist told me a story about her friend who went on an annual cruise and always tried to consume at least one more soft serve cone than the year before. While I don't recommend a soft serve-only diet, it's a refreshing treat in the afternoon after spending a long day ashore.
83. Learn the lay of the land with a scavenger hunt
Scavenger hunts aren't exclusive to the kids' clubs. Maybe you want to search for hidden Mickeys on a Disney cruise or participate in an adults-only scavenger hunt like The Quest on Royal Caribbean ships. Rather than search for items around the ship, you'll have to locate items amongst the crowd, from shoelaces to pictures of famous landmarks.
84. Learn how to make towel animals
Returning to your cabin to find new towel animal friends is one of the best parts of a cruise! These critters, left by your cabin steward, range from elephants to monkeys and swans. Rather than assume they're only something you can see on a cruise, check your ship's daily schedule to see if they're offering a towel animal seminar, so you can make your own at home!
85. Enjoy a peaceful morning onboard watching the sunrise
Waking up early isn't everyone's idea of a relaxing vacation. There are some perks to being among one of the first passengers awake though, from beautiful sunrises to short lines for specialty coffee and peaceful buffets.
86. Book excursions
While you should make an effort to book your excursions ahead of time, it can be overlooked amongst the other pre-cruise preparations. If you happen to forget, devote some to visiting the shore excursions team. The helpful crew will help you plan your perfect day ashore, so you aren't left making last-minute arrangements the night before.
87. Ride a water coaster
When Disney Dream launched in 2011, it had the first-ever shipboard water coaster, the AquaDuck. This unique attraction combines the thrills of a traditional roller coaster with the wet fun of a water ride. Now, similar slides can be found on Disney Fantasy and Wish. Disney Treasure, the newest ship in the fleet, will feature one, too. Moreover, Norwegian Aqua, will have the Aqua Slidecoaster instead of a go-kart track.
88. Watch a robot bartender craft your cocktail
Robot bartenders are equipped with advanced technology allowing them to mix, shake, and serve drinks, providing an interactive experience for cruise ship passengers. Found on select Royal Caribbean and MSC ships, guests can either select a cocktail from the menu or make their own creations.
89. Satisfy your need for speed at the race car simulator
MSC Cruises has Formula 1 simulators on many of its ships, including (but not limited to) MSC Grandiosa, MSC Seaside, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Divina, MSC Splendida, and MSC Fantasia. Though not included, this virtual-reality attraction offers passengers the ability to experience the high-speed thrills of Formula 1 racing on a simulated racetrack. Select MSC ships also have a flight simulator if you'd rather take flight than stay on the ground.
90. Hunt for ducks
While a relatively new phenomenon, hiding for rubber ducks on a cruise ship is a fun activity connecting cruisers worldwide. In short, it's like participating in a scavenger hunt without any hints. If you find a duck, you can keep it or re-hide it for another passenger to find.
91. Bundle up for a cool experience at the Ice Bar
Found on Norwegian Epic, Getaway, and Breakaway, visiting the Ice Bar is a must-do. For just $18, you'll gain admission to the bar and receive two Skyy Vodka-based cocktails. You'll also be able to use one of the parkas to keep warm. The drinks are served in literal cups of ice, and you can admire the ice sculptures while sipping on your libation.
92. Try a new food
Cruises include unlimited dining in certain complimentary venues, so it's a great time to step outside your comfort zone and try something new. From escargot to frog legs, there are numerous unique dishes to explore. If you don't like it, simply order something else!
93. Decorate your cabin door
Decorating your stateroom door is a fun way to add personality to your cabin! You may want to let other passengers know you're celebrating a birthday or anniversary, or maybe you want to add some tropical flair to get into the Caribbean spirit! Just make sure you abide by your cruise line's rules.
94. Watch for pier runners
A few minutes before your all-aboard time, head up to the lido deck to watch for pier runners, or passengers returning to the ship after the scheduled time. Typically, they're seen making a mad dash to ensure they are not left behind! It can be quite the spectacle.
95. Snorkel with aquatic wildlife
Snorkeling is one of the most popular excursions in The Bahamas and Caribbean. Who doesn't want a glimpse into the underwater world teeming with coral reefs, fish, and other marine life?
96. Plan a special celebration
While taking a cruise vacation is special in and of itself, maybe you want to make it even more memorable by honoring the occasion that brought you onboard. You can arrange for crew members to decorate someone's cabin for their birthday or even arrange for a surprise treat in the Main Dining Room!
97. Leave your worries behind at a yoga session
Yoga offers a wide range of benefits to physical and mental health, including increased flexibility and circulation, relaxation, and mindfulness. Attending an early morning yoga session on your cruise is a great way to kickstart your day!
98. Ride a carousel
Exclusive to Royal Caribbean's Oasis and Icon Class ships, the carousel is reminiscent of seaside boardwalks. You can ride it as many times as you'd like, as it's included in the cost of your cruise.
99. Save money on Broadway tickets and watch a Broadway-style musical
In addition to original production shows, some cruise ships have Broadway-style musicals onboard. Norwegian Viva, for instance, features an adaptation of Beetlejuice, while Allure of the Seas' cast performs the musical hit Mamma Mia!
100. See a movie in 4D
While there's nothing quite like watching a movie underneath the stars, guests seeking a more immersive experience will appreciate the 4D theater. In addition to auditory and visual elements, you can expect motion seats that are synchronized with the film. There may also be physical components like wind and mist.
101. Stargaze in a Planetarium
Cunard's Queen Mary 2 is the only ship in the world to feature an onboard Planetarium. With up to four showings per sea day, guests can learn about the solar system and how to navigate by stars. When the dome is retracted, the venue will host 3D films, concerts, and more.
